10-year-old rape victim put behind bars

The callous response of police came to fore when a 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped, was put behind bars by women cops after she approached them to file a complaint along with her mother.

Two women constables have been suspended while two sub-inspectors including the station-in-charge have been sent to police lines following the incident, SSP Gulab Singh said.

The victim spent several hours behind the bars after her mother brought her to a women's police station to lodge a complaint against a local goon for allegedly raping her. She was rescued only after locals protested over the matter.

According to Singh, the minor from Meerpur village here was found lying unconscious in a field by her parents last night where she had been dumped after being allegedly raped.

Geez, first the Dec. 2012 gang rape, a similar case three months later, and even corrupt COPS arresting a VICTIM? And India wonders why tourism is shrinking?

I am sorry for the people there, but really, why go to a nation that is this corrupt and dysfunctional for its women?

Thank you, I'll go to Europe...

said they don't plan on ever returning to India. Literally all of them said India is not a nice place to live for most, and that they have no intention to return. Although the locals getting together to free the girl seems inline with how they described the communities coming to together to self-police at times.

it is the one crime where the victim is referred to as "the alleged victim".

If a woman has her purse stolen she is reported to be the victim of a crime.
If she is beaten so the theif can get her purse the media reports she was a victim.

But if the thief beats her, rapes her and steals her purse she suddenly becomes the "alleged victim".

This makes me crazy every time I see it.
