Like Reagan, her mind died long ago. She had no ongoing effect as a living person whether her heart was beating or not.
However, it is a matter of great import to the world of today and tomorrow how she is remembered.
We lost the war over the Reagan legacy... big time.
And we may lose the war over the "W" legacy too, if the chimp lives long enough.
It is easy to lose these contests.
So hats off to everyone out there keepin' hate alive for Baroness Thatcher.
It is important work.
Somewhere in the UK a little girl is forming a sense of whether Thatcher was a role model. That little girl wasn't around back then. To her, Thatcher is merely the most famous woman in the history of British electoral politics.
And I am glad that little girl will be aware that some folks are popping champagne and dancing in the streets... will know that Thatcher was not a universally admired trailblazer and not necessarily a role model.

(9,494 posts)She had a strangle hold on her country and practically destroyed it until they booted her out in disgrace. Unlike this country, the working class and the poor know when they are getting screwed.

Keep up the good work. There's still a lot of tyrants taking up our oxygen.

the right wingers didn't use the occasion of their deaths as an opportunity to promote their own sick agenda, which in many cases neither Reagan nor Thatcher would have supported anyway.
This is not dancing on graves. It is simply pushing back against those who want to erect a giant grandstand on their graves.

(8,377 posts)She was PM. Why would she not be entitled to a state funeral?

Maggie Thatcher was the PM. She was a horrible person with horrible beliefs, but she was still the PM. I'm sure you could have found some people who think FDR should have been burned and his ashes pissed on when he died--but that didn't make him any less deserving of a state funeral.
