Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness has said people should not be celebrating the death of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Street parties have been taking place around Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK following the death of Baroness Thatcher (87), who suffered a stroke in central London yesterday.
Writing on Twitter, Mr McGuinness said people should "resist celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher".
The Deputy First Minister added: "She was not a peacemaker but it is a mistake to allow her death to poison our minds."
A crowd of two or three hundred people assembled in Glasgow's George Square yesterday where in 1989 protests to the introduction of Thatcher's poll tax took place.
Some wore party hats and launched streamers into the air while a bottle of champagne was opened with a toast to the demise of Baroness Thatcher.

Public death parties are one-time events that have a public, social dimension, so I think it's fine for the head of a political party or movement to suggest what is helpful (or not) or respectful (or not). You don't win hearts and minds for your side by acting gross or stupid. And there's really no point to it, now.
But mostly, the death parties aren't being prohibited. It's just a suggestion about how to behave. Laws that attempt to restrict abortion or marriage are laws--final and incontrovertible to the people they affect. Like the poll tax, you know.

Since the "poll tax " is mentioned. Was all very well some refusing to pay - the only problem with that was that in many cases it caused the same people to drop off the electoral registers and that contributed to her party being returned to power.
