I just got an email from Obama's organization dunniing me for a contribution

as part of a "grassroots" movement pushing immigration reform. I responded to the email with the following:

I'm more interested in joining grassroots efforts to preserve and enhance social safety nets such as Social Security, thank you.

Just like when another job-killing, job-exporting free trade agreement comes up, they'll say it will "create new opportunities for job growth by exporting our products" blah blah blah.

At least republicans; vile as they are; tell us plainly to go screw ourselves. I hate it when our side screws us but with a smile and a handshake.

asking for a donation. Even though they sounded legit to me, I'm not going to give anyone card info over the phone.
I told the person on the phone if I feel like donating again I will go to Obamas website.

I don't think it's right to contact people and ask for money. Especially the Gov. I'm working about a MONTH each year for state and federal taxes already! He's elected now and should keep people informed through the White House website.

There are plenty of local charities hurting for donations..not a penny more to the Local-State or Federal gov.

Emails especially are to easy to scam with. To the OP, could you please copy=paste the email in your topic so we can see what 'Obama group' this is and the contex of the email. Thank you.

Very soon, comprehensive immigration reform will be introduced -- and could be passed -- in Congress.

Passing immigration reform is something that has been years, even decades, in the making. If legislators in both parties can put aside political posturing and summon the courage to do the right thing, we will make history together.

It's up to you and me to make sure our lawmakers find that courage -- and that they know if they step up and fix our broken system, we'll get their backs.

This is our moment -- join the grassroots effort to help pass comprehensive immigration reform.

President Obama and a growing number of bipartisan lawmakers have laid the framework for the path forward on immigration. They've identified three things we need to do right away:

We need to strengthen border security, streamline the legal immigration process so law-abiding companies can get the workers they need, and create an earned path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the shadows.

These are tough issues for politicians to wrestle with. But for myself and for millions of our friends and neighbors, immigration isn't just political -- it's intensely personal.

My grandma came to the United States as an orphan from Mexico. She never made it past the fourth grade -- she had to drop out of school to work and support her family. As an adult, she scraped by, working hard to give my mother a shot, so that my mother could give my brother and me an even better one.

People like my grandma -- men and women in all corners of the United States, of all ages and origins -- have helped build this country.

They deserve a system that works -- and our country's economy depends on it.

We know what's broken, and we know how to fix it.

Say you're ready to fight for immigration reform. Add your name today:

America is watching -- let's get this done.

Asking to add your name is not dunning for money. I've signed bunches of these because numbers count with the Gov.

I got so tired of receiving the emails begging for money and also dunning me for a contribution that I "unsubscribed" and my explanation was that I was an independent and was tired of receiving all of their emails "requesting" contributions.

And, by the way, I did actually go to my state website and change my status to "unaffiliated." I choose to vote for the person that is best qualified for the job--regardless of party affiliation.

It sickens me to watch the game of political football that is taking place with MY LIFE and the lives of the citizens of this country. And, at this point, it appears that our politicians are bought and paid for by the corporations and actually do their bidding rather than representing the people of this country.

Your response is better than mine--and I also support grassroots efforts for a number of issues, as I am sure that you do.

Sign Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders petitions, for example. Once you've gotten to know them, consider sending cash.

Everyone watches where the money is going. When Warren and Sanders get lots of small donations then a message has been sent and it is being taken into account.

I started replying with no donation when arne and his boss started dismantling public education.

I guess they make up for my donations with funds from their corporate buddies.
