With Margaret Thatcher's passing today, former Smith's singer and songwriter Morrissey released a brutal assessment of the Prime Minister's leadership and accomplishments:
"Thatcher is remembered as The Iron Lady only because she possessed completely negative traits such as persistent stubbornness and a determined refusal to listen to others."
"Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the Ivory Trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own Cabinet booted her out." ...
"Thatcher will only be fondly remembered by sentimentalists who did not suffer under her leadership, but the majority of British working people have forgotten her already, and the people of Argentina will be celebrating her death. As a matter of recorded fact, Thatcher was a terror without an atom of humanity."

(25,406 posts)4. He also said that President Obama is "useless".
The former lead singer of The Smiths told the site, Its only my personal view, but I think the age of the president or the prime minister is dead. People everywhere have lost faith in politics, and rightly so. Something different needs to happen.
I think we were all initially swept along with the Obama win, but hes proven to be simply a set of teeth, and useless in every other regard. Time and time again we see the same scenario whereby political figures only see the public as electorate, and once anyone is elected they appear to hate the people. British politics, as the world knows, is a joke. Yet its rarely funny, he added.
Morrissey also told JUICE he believes all world leaders are dictatorships, and from what weve seen in the Middle East, they will all not hesitate to turn the tanks onto their own people should anyone question their morality. Its fascinating.

(265 posts)10. Meh, Morrissey hates EVERYONE
Probably his fans included. Think he's gotten over his own self-loathing a bit. So I don't really take anything he says to seriously...still one of my favorite performers though.

Started to go off him when "Meat is Murder" came out.

(265 posts)12. I think everything he did with The Smiths is solid
Really liked his early solo work too. Grown a bit apathetic about his recent stuff.

You go, Moz.
