About 20 percent of adults regardless of age have asked their doctors for a lower cost treatment, according to the study released today by the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Spending on drugs is expected to increase an average of 6.6 percent a year from 2015 through 2021, the Kaiser Family Foundation has reported.

(37,364 posts)Medications are expensive. I have refused prescriptions from my doctor for anything less than the absolute essential medication (I have one medication that I cannot live without--literally). I don't seek treatment for every little thing either. Future costs are very much a part of our consideration as are the side effects of a lot of these medications. We have watched too many older people start down a slippery slope of medicines to treat side effects of other medications until their cupboards are virtually pharmacies. Big Pharma has been left free of obligations for too long.
