North Korea: Japan Deploys Missile Defence

Japan has deployed missile-defence systems in key locations around Tokyo as North Korea warned foreigners in the South to take evacuation measures in case of war.

The Patriot missile batteries were set up as a precautionary measure, and the Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun reported that North Korea would launch a missile test on Wednesday.

The batteries were deployed in the defence ministry headquarters in Tokyo and in two suburbs of the Japanese capital, officials said.

Tokyo also reportedly has warships with missile interception systems on alert in the Sea of Japan.

It sounds like if they are going to do anything it's going to go down tonight around dinner on the East Coast. Reports of a possible missile test.

What does Kim hope to accomplish? It looks to me like someone stronger is putting him up to this, someone who wants to provoke a confrontation. Surely Kim isn't so completely delusional that he believes he would survive a war with the U.S. all on his own.

I didn't think NK was going to do anything, but they are really doing everything that one would do to prepare for war in their situation. Of course there's always the chance with these guys that they're just talking again.

I did see some talk that Japan would shoot down the missile they might test tonight (our time). They might use that as the "they fired the first shot" excuse and start all-out war.

afraid a war might start as a result of a misunderstanding because the situation is so tense. I could see that happening, too. Let's hope this is all much ado about nothing.

Japan IS interested, however, in protecting itself in the event that North Korea goes completely batshit crazy insane, because North Korea has already fired at least two missiles over Japanese air space and has done other crazy shit in the past like kidnap people in Japan and take them back to North Korea.

However, North Korea has had a long-smoldering animosity towards Japan. In the recent past, NK has kidnapped people in Japan and taken them back to North Korea, and the country has shot at least two of its missiles through Japanese airspace, including one that passed over Okinawa on December 12 of last year.

But then again the Japanese and South Koreans are defended by the US. So the question is will they really commit suicide? I don't think they will.

But the fact that North Korea launched a missile that flew over Okinawa just 4 months ago tells me that the leadership of that country is not playing with a full deck.

And who knows what is going on behind the scenes between North Korea and whatever allies it may have?

At any rate, the Japanese have deemed the current situation to be enough of a threat that they have put defense systems in the Tokyo area on red alert.
