MSNBC Declined To Interview Rep. Salmon’s Gay Son, Won’t Say Why

PEMA LEVY 5:36 PM EDT, MONDAY APRIL 8, 2013

A spokesperson with MSNBC acknowledged on Monday that the network had considered but ultimately decided against doing an on-air interview with the gay son of U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), but the spokesperson declined to say why.

Matt R. Salmon, the congressman's son, told Phoenix TV station KPNX on Sunday that both CNN and MSNBC had declined to interview him after he said that he would not be critical of his father's opposition to same-sex marriage.

"A producer had initial conversations with Matt, like we do with many potential guests every day, but he was never formally booked for the show," an MSNBC spokesperson emailed TPM Monday.

A spokesperson for CNN declined to comment.
