I'm Thinking The Only Thing Left To Get Congress To Do The Right Thing About Guns Is......

and I'm going to preface this before I make my suggestion because it would really be a terrible thing for the parents and families of the kids that were shot up at Sandy Hook to experience - but I'm thinking it is the only thing that can move both the American People and the Congress. It would be a big sacrifice on the part of those Sandy Hook families - but I think it would get the task done and would be a tribute to all those killed in such mass shootings.

And that is to show some of the pictures of the kids that were shot. Show the effects of the destructive work of the guns - bullets - clips - and what it does to a body.

I know that this is really objectionable - but I don't think most people - including many gun owners - have any concept of what a gun does to a human body.

I don't think anyone could defend guns after seeing such pictures - not the Congress, not gun owners, not the NRA.

As Americans we've been pretty sheltered from the destructive effects of guns - even in war - we've been sheltered. Those scenes are usually blocked out or blurred when such scenes are shown on the newscasts.

I think if the American People could see the effects first hand - there would be no question that we would get Congress to do the right thing with respect to gun laws.

I know that I'm opening myself up for a lot of criticism here - but I thought that this situation is getting to a point where something like this is needed. We can't continue to go on like we have been and risk another Sandy Hook.

No, not without the consent of the parents and family and others who would be impacted, IMHO. nt NYC_SKP Apr 2013 #2

I'm not saying that these pics should be released willy-nilly I really think though that they would have an impact that nothing thus far has in this gun argument. How could any Senator or Congressman or NRA member - defend them.

When we see guns used on TV and in the Movies - they are glamorized. They don't look that destructive. What the American Public, Congress and the NRA needs is a dose of reality.

"Stab wounds from knives look very unsightly, too."

I'm just saying - that's the counter-argument that some people will probably raise.

that you think more highly of congress then I do. I don't think they would change their minds if you laid the children's bodies in front of them.:Gr:

I've seen some trauma photographs of people who have been killed or injured by gunfire. Some wounds are relatively unremarkable, a simple hole in the skin, probably some serious bruising around the impact point. But then again, I have also seen some wounds that would bring many of you to tears. Perhaps I should have shed some as well, but maybe I'm just a little grizzled and have seen more than my share. I won't elaborate any further except to say that I know what a point-blank shotgun blast can do to a face.

Do I still own guns? Yes. Even after seeing such photos? Even still. And yes, this includes "politically incorrect" weapons and magazines that so many DUers want to see banned, if not outlawed.

But here's what the photos did for me. They imparted an extra degree of vigilance and care in myself when it comes to handling and storing guns. They sobered me, slowed me down, forced me to consider the consequences of carelessness, let alone anger. And this, I'm sure you'll agree, is not a bad thing.
