Anonymous launches cyber attack on Israel; major government websites down

Updated at 2:45pm: Dozens of Israeli websites were hacked in early hours Sunday, including pages of the prime minister’s office and the Tel Aviv stock exchange, in the largest cyber offensive yet against the Jewish state.

The operation is being dubbed #OpIsrael and is said to be led by hacker group Anonymous, which says it aims to wage hacking operations against human rights violators. Several official websites were covered in photos of long-term hunger striker Samer Issawi, deceased Palestinian prisoner Maysara Abu Hamdiyeh, and slain Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh.

The names and email addresses of some 1,500 Mossad agents have also reportedly been made public in a Google Doc.

The organizers said Sunday would be “the largest Internet battle in the history of mankind” that would eventually “wipe Israel off the map of the Internet” on April 7. Over 19,000 Israeli Facebook pages are reportedly down. Below is an Anonymous video warning of Sunday’s offensive:

When you act like that, you may have some opposition.

Christopher Hitchens was right. Religion poisons everything. If it weren't for religion, the state of Israel would be at peace with their neighbors. Or, maybe there wouldn't be a state of Israel and people would just live in peace. Of course, we also wouldn't have a Saudi, or a Pakistan, or any other countries created solely on religious beliefs.

There even might be peace in the world.

God is Not Great: How religion poisons everything. Hitchens at his polemic best.

Pity about the alcohol.

One question: If the Muslim states get their heart's fervent desire which is control of Israel, will you speak out against their cruel treatment of the Jews?

As I'm sure you're protesting vociferously the Syrian treatment of the Palestinians. Please provide links.

I saw a post about Hitchens this morning. The first sentence called him a bully, an ad hominem attack, just like yours.

If you have an argument against Hitchens, I would call on you to present it without being fallacious. No ad hominem arguments will suffice.

Now I certainly do not agree with Hitchens' position on the Iraq war. But I do substantially agree with his position on religion. I can have a reasonable and cordial discussion on these matters if people would agree that the principles are what are important. Personalities, not so much.

I have been known to imbibe in alcoholic beverage. Does that nullify my opinion, or my education?

Skäl, my friend.
