Lock Fucking Box.

Before tinkering with Social Security:

1.) Cut the Military Budget in half or eliminate it all together
2.) Get rid of the idiotic Homeland Defense Department
3.) Eliminate the Drug Enforcement Agency
4.) Make the entire Bush Family turn tricks for pay for their wars including Barbara
5.) Sell off all the national parks
6.) Renege on all foreign debt
7.) Replace the entire government

There. Get the picture? Have I made myself clear?

Social Security is the third rail and any career politician who touches it will be electrocuted in the next election, be they Democrat or Republican.

How do you adjust for population and demographic changes?

Why isn't anyone concerned that at the depletion of the trust fund benefits will fall 25%?

This inflation adjustment seems minimal compared to that.

Then when the fund is gone contributions will be 25% less than what we have been promised as a payout.

Ergo 25% cut.

out of all the likely ones? Because that's how the prudently conservative trustees of SS issue their reports. Sorry, no link for that but I was reading that a day or two ago.

Top Dem's/Bernie Sanders have posted how to easily get past that bump in the road. I'm not arguing that there isn't a time we need to plan for. I'm arguing that there is a bigger picture.

The social security system hasn't had to cope with a declining number of contributors compared to beneficiaries to the point where outflows exceed inflows til now. That's what the trust fund does, it makes up the difference. But when the funds gone then there won't be enough contributions to pay for benefits.

Does anyone understand the problem here?

End all fracking activities immediately.

Find other sources of energy. God knows we have tons - solar, green, hydroelectricity, wind, and many more that are infinite.

We need to stop using finite sources and use it for only what we really need.

If we are going to run out of finite stuff, we need to find more - so the final frontier begins.

Space exploration will probably be the future.

just leased for $0.01 per acre per decade by some asinine legislation. Of course the crony capitalist granted the lease would have to receive some tax incentive for taking such a great risk. (more sarcasm - hell, its saturday)

That's the only way they can keep their fingers off it. We, the People, no longer wish to loan the Social Security fund to this government. If they need revenues for their war machine, let them get the money elsewhere. We will still put the fund into Treasury Bonds but we will no longer agree to loan the money to the US Government. Put it in a lock box!
