General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid anyone happen to watch Hannity's special on food stamps tonight?
I happened to surf through channels and caught the last fifteen minutes.
He had a group of people to discuss the BOOM business of food stamps. There were quite a few people from Breitbart, Tom Fitton from Judicial Watch, and many others whose names and affiliations I did not catch.
It was a spirited group.
Their main beef was the dependent society that has resulted from the War On Poverty.
Their favored solution was to teach Americans that the social safety net is a trap designed to strip citizens of their freedom.
Capitalism = freedom. Social programs = tyranny.
Donald Trump was a guest. He says America has lost its mojo. He says that employment is very likely 18 percent, and that African Americans have been decimated by joblessness. He says that we need to make things and to create things.
But there was no talk of jobs programs.
I wonder if this will be repeated. It's worth watching them to see the loony thinking.

(50,130 posts)The emphasis was on THREE generations of dependency since LBJ's War On Poverty.
Hannity said that a family could live pretty well with the $600 in food stamps coming in. No need to work.
Of course, there is an unspoken racial aspect to the discussion.

(50,130 posts)One of the men brought up the fact that catsup is considered a staple by people getting aid.
Oops. Hannity stammered and there was some cross talk.
I guess the man was too young to know that Reagan was responsible for the elevation of catsup to "vegetable."
