For the record, I'm so damned tired of the negative. Same as it ever was.

Buck up. This is politics, this is an intense game we watch at our own peril. Yea, it sucks so bad but feels so good when the good guys win.

And change/politics take so much time. I hate that, but it's a fact.

Sure, it's been going on for a while, but especially since 2001 we have seen the near-total devastation of the middle class, transfer of vast amounts of our wealth to the already obscenely wealthy (with lots of legislation to facilitate that transfer), the construction of a surveillance and militarized police state in which most of our communications are monitored by the government and peaceful protests are brutally suppressed, a strong start to the privatization of our school systems and prisons, the bipartisan targeting of our fundamental social safety nets in an economy in which the vast majority of us have already been obscenely looted beyond all human decency, and repeal of the Magna Carta/the claiming by our President of the right to assassinate anyone at will without due process.

I'd say that's quite a lot of change in a very short time.

There is a lot of positive, and would be a helluva lot more if the asshats in the House would accept a black man as President.

That's my story, you keep spouting yours.

or you just don't want to hear about it? Were you this tired of the negative when we were screaming nothing but negativity during the Bush years? Did you ever write an OP claiming we should all just accept it because 'that's politics'??

Well, maybe for you it is just politics. For many of the people I know, particularly the elderly who don't know a thing about politics, it is about their lives, whether or not they can afford to eat or buy their medicines or have to give up a beloved pet because they can't afford it.

So you just go right on being tired of people trying to make this a better world for those currently under attack by our happy leaders and enjoy all the pomp and circumstance or whatever politics means to you, but a whole of US are more than tired of the negative crap being flung at the most vulnerable Americans and by a Democrat no less and we will not be shutting up about it. Maybe you could look at it as 'just politics'.

i`ve spent more than enough time in doctors offices and hospitals in the last few weeks than i ever have in my life. thanks to mr johnson and the rest who voted for medicare everything is being paid by medicare. i also look around and notice there are a lot of people my age and older who are also on medicare and i`m guessing they might be wondering the same thing as i am.what the hell? if they cut social security and medicare how in the hell are we supposed to make up the difference? cut our social security payments? that`s our money we gave the government.

i`m also guessing that most of the people i see are not political junkies like you and me. we can understand how the game is played in washington but there`s millions who do`t nor have the time to do so. what`s even worse many listen to the rightwing media crap that pollutes the public discussion on these issues. the president and the democratic party is making a huge mistake by putting social security and medicare on the table. we have to remember there is going to be a lot more early retirements because the economic outllook for them is as bleak as mine was 4-5 years ago. i had to take my ss early because there were no jobs for anyone my age. this is what pisses me off the most. it`s the coming election for the house and senate. are these people going to vote for the democrats when they put ss and medicare on the table? i`m not sure i`d want to bet on the democrats if obama and the democrats if they decide to play this hand.

OP, babylonsistah. It's far from over but when has that stopped the gushing hate when there's money to be made.

This is just the latest.. what was that last week? "PBO didn't veto monsanto".. without any other facts attached. Just that headline is what generated donations.

11. Meh-- it'll never change, but the good news is...
Fri Apr 5, 2013, 11:04 PM

that a lot of attitudes are changing. Slowly, but they are changing.

I try to ignore the nonsense here about the planet blowing up because SS recipients will get a $10 increase instead of a $20 one. The argument should start about just what should retirement mean to a retiree who has worked all his or her life and how do we best get there.

Same with healthcare. Arguing over the best and worst plans makes no sense when we should be first talking about keeping Americans healthy and then how to get there.

I take those two big fights with a grain of salt-- no matter what gets decided today will be brought up again soon enough, with a whole new crop of people with different ideas.

Other things are looking up. We're starting to get tired of paying for enough firepower to blow up the next 20 countries to piss us off. We can accomplish most of what we want (which is a lot less than what we've been doing) for a lot less money and a lot less interference in the rest of the world.

And our attitudes toward the health of the planet are changing. Again too slowly, but most of us are actually waking up to the idea that it's not just global warming, but using the planet as an enormous trash can and mining its resources to oblivion just isn't working.

Yeah, it's three steps forward and two back, but that's pretty much the best we can do until we evolve a bit more. I just hope the planet lasts long enough until we do see that evolution.

BTW, we have a new Good News Group here in DU. Might be worth a look.

This is the long game, people do not understand that this is what Obama is about.

The hair pulling, the shock and despair that our President is forsaking our very souls. Everyday a new outrage springs to the greatest page. People need to stop, think and listen. We can get there, however we need to do it as one, not divided, but united.

That is what this country says to us, we need to understand our name. We are The United States of America.
United we can stand.

Thank you Babylonsister.

Today I see the exact same thing happening in that the only thing people are talking about when it comes to President Obama's budget is the fact that it contains use of chained-CPI. As I wrote about earlier today, when we actually see the details of the budget, what should become obvious is that there will be built-in measures to eliminate the impact this change has on those that are most vulnerable. With those provisions, a 0.3% annual reduction in the inflationary increase of payments is just not that big of a deal.
