Since 1964, even when Dems "win", we lose

After Johnson's Great Society, and the Civil Rights legislation., just what have we accomplished , in a progressive sense?

We did manage to get Roe v Wade, but that was largely due to the SCOTUS that was put in place years earlier. Even that progressive decision was doomed, since it galvanized the wacky religious fringe that has "blossomed" into what we have now.

Nixon, even though he was a republican, probably did more progressive things than Dems who followed him:

Carter.....hobbled from the get-go, and ruined throughout his one-term. accomplished little (he has been awesome after he left office)

Clinton....demonized immediately, marginalized and pushed into governing republican-style. (More effective out of office)

Republicans "win" because they are willing to "go-there"..every time....all the time.

Democrats fear being in the minority in the senate & house,. so when we are in power, we hedge our bets, and look for compromise. When we are out of power, we "accommodate" republicans, in hopes that they will reciprocate at a future time... They will NOT.

We have been led around by our noses for half a century, by people who have NEVER been a majority (except in their own minds).

Their ideas are stale at best, and toxic at worst...and we have had mostly the worst.

The second republicans gain control they start unraveling life vests, closing escape hatches, and start scuttling the boat. No one challenges them effectively. They do it over and over and over, and even when they are out of office, they keep on doing it through media & archaic parliamentary rules (odd , since we are not a parliamentary system).

They have proved , over and over, that their way does not work for the "commons", but they keep getting chances to try again. When Dems prevail, we are almost always forced into playing nice with them, and still doing it their way..

For all the great ideas that Obama had (and still has), we will see very little come to fruition because it's almost impossible to implement any of them in the manner they were presented..
(want an ice cream, sundae, kid?...here ya go..bear in mind that it comes with shit sprinkles on top...no fair scraping them off either..)

Media accepts every brain-fart that comes from a republican, as newsworthy, and acceptable policy, but when Dems' ideas are presented, it's dissected to the nth degree and pooh-poohed as not "conservative enough".

As I approach 64 (next week), it's more than a little depressing to note that most of my adult life has been lived in a constant state of push-pull.. We push forward...they pull us back..further than where we started..

I had hoped for a better place for my kids... My hopes are unfulfilled

I think liberal/Democratic/progressive/left wing (take your choice) principles are more nuanced, take deeper thought, are shades of gray instead of black and white - and because it is "easier" for many to just take a black and white approach, be easily led (and easily misled) - and be driven by fear - of change, of the unknown.

Take that and package it with the the fact that lots of the wealth (hence power) owns the microphone and business, and it becomes clear that the deck will always be stacked against us.

They aren't afraid, naive, stupid or spineless. They are doing exactly as they are bidden to do by the people that own them. The second FDR allowed the party to fuck Wallace out of his rightful VP slot, the oligarchs have set about dismantling every single good thing the New Deal has brought us. It's been a long term campaign and they are nearly there. They've already destroyed the labor movement and now they're coming to get SS with all the blessings of our "Democratic" President. They're coming to get Medicare and they've already begun dismantling the Post Office. All the commons are being sold off and privatized.

They killed off every agent of positive change that there was and everyone else has fallen in line.

This game is over and the bad guys won.

To see which Democrats will vote for stupid wars and taxcuts for the wealthy and oil pipelines over our water supply?
