Unable to pay rent, Italian couple commits suicide, BIL throws self into sea, dies.

3 people die because of Italy's austerity program.

An Italian couple in their sixties, overwhelmed by crushing financial difficulties and unable to pay their rent, committed suicide by hanging, police told local media on Friday.

The bodies of Romeo Dionsi, 62, and Anna Sopranzi, 68, were discovered by their neighbours on Friday morning at their home in Civitanova, a small village in the central Marche region on the Adriatic Sea.

Learning the news, the woman's brother Giuseppe Sopranzi, 73, threw himself into the sea.
His body was retrieved by rescuers who were unable to revive him.

Police said there was no doubt the suicide was linked to economic problems, and that the couple was unable to pay their rent.
Sopranzi received a modest pension of 500 euros ($650) a month and her husband was a "victim" of recent labour reforms that left him without unemployment insurance or right to a pension, police said.

Many couples, like us, are on that slippery slope, and now, thanks to Obama's support of chained CPI,
it will become a sad option, at some point down a short road.
us retirees in our 60's and 70's who are not wealthy, do not have the strength or willingness to be homeless in 10 years or less.
Many of us who made reasonable plans for retirement could not foresee the lengths this corporatocracy
would go to to steal our livelihood.
Fewer and fewer options every year, in a nation which clearly does not value the very young, the old, the poor, women or minorities, and the sick.

Can't manage your life because you are too old or disabled? Then DIE!

I unfriended a very long-time friend over this late last year. I'm sure she thinks I won't talk to her because of politics, but I won't talk to her because she has such a rotten attitude about the sick, homeless, aged, and disabled. But she sure doesnt mind drawing her government check!

She and her husband continue to blame the poor, disabled, and food stamp recipients for living on the 'dole.' Her husband lives on a pension; she works at an emergency department, and she's pretty judgemental about those people, too.

I am considered too socialist.

Check for her service in the military, all 18 years. I don't mind that she gets it; that's the deal they made with her, and she was offered early retirement at full benefits (I think).

What she has forgotten is that the rest of us have paid into our retirement for 35-45 years. And Medicare. But for some reason, there is something wrong with those 47%, but not her.

Not like they have the brains or wherewithall to select their fallacies, but maybe you understand what I meant... that there is real mental challenge in the hypocrite department among the "core" republican voters.

This is a really bad problem for them, in general. Liberals can also be hypocrites, but no matter the political persuasion, the underlying cause is always the same: Poor critical thinking.

Greece's Social Fabric Unravels

By Charles André Udry

Source: Socialistworker.org

Thursday, January 10, 2013

THE PERIOD from October 20 to November 17, 2012 opened a window on the socio-political crisis in Greece. Its consequences are still difficult to foresee. In the first part of this discussion, we will trace the contours of the dark and dangerous socioeconomic situation, as a preamble before we make some points about the "SYRIZA model"--that is, the Coalition of the Radical Left that came in second in Greece's elections last spring.

A recent study made public by professor Haralambos Papageorgiou at a national conference held in Athens from October 18-20, 2012, indicated that 33 percent of women and 25 percent of men living in Greece were suffering from moderate to severe depression. The main cause of this was the repercussions of the economic depression, with all its manifestations in the daily lives of a very large majority of Greeks--and the possibility that these conditions will continue into the future.

On August 29, 2012, Giorgios Chatzis left a message on his wife's telephone: "I will not be coming home. I have no more to offer. I am nothing anymore. I love you all. Take care of the children."

The destruction of the "social fabric" has been set in motion. For the moment, the socio-political mobilizations are standing in the way of the explosion of exacerbated tensions (which already existed) between the various "fragments" of the society, and the fear of "the unknown," which is taking hold of certain parts of the population.
