UPDATE on DU Karma: While in emergency surgery last night he beat the WIDOW MAKER!!!

OP: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022617419

I don't usually post family info like I used to do all the time because of a few certain people.

He has lost 40 pounds in the last 3 months. Yesterday he ran 2.5 miles in the gym and then hit the weights. Chest pains started after his dinner.

After a few quick tests it was off to emergency surgery for a stent. That was when I posted asking for good Karma. They already knew he would need two more stents after a month or so. Had he not been in the operating room when it hit, he would not have survived. TWO cardiologists told him so this morning. He is in ICU for the weekend.

Thank you everyone for the Karma!

He is still above his target weight. He had changed his diet and started working out. It will be a drastic change to his diet now. Smoking was only 1 of the factors working against him last night. But was the biggest.

Doctors, nurses, friends, and relatives all gave him moral support. It's now been 30 hours without one for him.

Neither one since, and it's been 10 years May 13. I'd smoked AND chewed, simultaneously, since college and I'm 63 now. It's not just doable... it's necessary. As a great Jedi knight once observed, "Try? There is no 'try'. Do, or do not." I'll just add the obvious... Do, or die. I'll bet my left ventricle that he never touches another one.

I was given & carry a little card that has a drawing of the heart & arteries within, with markings of where the blockage was.

Three stents the first time, two more a year later.

Neither was emergency surgery, though, thank God. And thank God for the advances in medicines and the availability of well-trained physicians when you need them.
