I'm surviving on Social Security and a small rent check I split with a relative. Between the two I live on less than $2,000 a month. 70% of that income is from Social Security, and in this economy I can't raise the rent. Over the past 4 years just the cost of my food, electricity, and gasoline have increased over $100.00 per month, yet even with the current joke of a CPI my Social Security check has not increased enough to come close to matching that increase. Now they want to make the COLA even lower? What the fuck are we supposed to do......buy crap cheap food at The Dollar Store, ride bikes everywhere, and keep the thermostat at 50 degrees in winter and 88 degrees in the summer? How are we supposed to pay all our co-pays and deductibles from Medicare? How are we supposed to stimulate the economy buying consumer goods when we can barely afford food, gas, electricity, medicine, and health care?
What the fuck is wrong with these people? And yes, that includes you Obama!!!

(16,993 posts)They've never had to, or if they did, they've long forgotten what it was like. The wealthy corporations start dangling money in front of their faces, and they abandon whatever good, humane ideals they had before they got elected, and take the easy way out.
After all, they will never have to suffer, they're fixed for life. Their family will have enough money to do what they want to do, and left behind are those who really depend on their elected representatives to remember them, and do the right things by them.
Until we get the millionaires and their money out of politics, it will never get better for most of America. The best people never run for office, because they can't afford to. Publicly financed campaigns and mandatory term limits are what we need.
The cost of living is growing much more rapidly than anything else, yet someone everyone's just supposed to figure out how to get by, while the people who are supposed to be looking out for them live the good life, unaware (or intentionally ignoring) that for some, the good life is becoming less likely as time passes.

(12,693 posts)Congress and the White House now operate completely and totally seperate and apart from the American people. They don't know, they don't want to know and don't care.

Unlike all the other stories I will have for them -
The day I realized a First Lady can plant all the organic gardens she cares to, but what matters is how her Husband appoints Monsanto Big Shots to key positions (May 2009)
The day I realized our nation was an oiligarchy (BP Spill, 2010.)
The day I realized our government's political leader always willing to give up money to modernize our military while letting the states go into decline (End of summer 2010)
The day I realized the EPA could care less about radiation blanketing our West Coast (Fukushima March to Aug 2011)
