Anyone *really* think cuts in Social Security will pass the Senate? Come on.

Republicans won't support it because the last thing they want to do is to alienate elderly voters.

Democrats won't support it because the last thing they want to do is to undermine the social safety net.

Of course, this all assumes Obama is actually proposing cutting Social Security - and I have yet to hear any legitimate source say that he is. (Biased news outlets do not count as "legitimate news sources.&quot

The problem is with a "Democrat" who is president who is hellbent on killing SS to further a neoliberal agenda of "austerity."

I'm seeing posts of that kind all over local news sites and I live in a very blue area.

The point IS that a Democratic President has proposed officially reducing me to eating cat food when my taxes, utilities, and cost of living goes up and my social security benefit doesn't.

It's a DEMOCRAT who is slapping every senior citizen in the face and saying "sit down and shut the hell up while I create a legacy."

As I understand it, the cuts are tied to revenue increases. No cuts to SS unless the president gets the revenue increases he wants. Otherwise, he'll pull it off the table. I think the odds are pretty damn high that he'll be pulling it off the table. I don't see the rethugs giving even a nanometer on any sort of tax increases or loophole closings.

....senators for ANY proposed cuts to social programs? He has ZERO support among Democrats in the Senate for cutting social programs. None, Nada. Zilch. It doesn't matter how the GOP Tea-Nazis feel about cutting social programs if the Democrats in the Senate block the legislation.

But, just so you understand where the GOP Tea-Nazis are coming from, because I don't think you do, they will NOT support ANY legislation that calls for ANY increase in taxes on the top 1%.

Meet the old stalemate, same as the old stalemate.
