In my email ...
I have read the NRA funded report and it does make a lot of already well accepted recommendations. But those are suggestions nearly all of us in police and security work knew. It avoids any suggestion of local weapon control or background checks.
The likelihood of any officer or officer and employee armed with handguns defeating a person who has planned and prepared their attack (also addressed in the report) is very slim. The combat weapons are just too much for a handgun.
What this report does offer, is - for a price of course - training and certification, site surveys, and a host of possible money making opportunities for the NRA and this team of security advisors. The training fee for one employee, will be between 800 and 1000 dollars.
The NRA advisors "National School Shield" is being poised to become a very profitable and tax payer funded operation. It even suggests contractors. Black Water anyone?"

Should we sacrifice children for the sake of guns?
What is our priority, our children or the absolutist's abstract (and profitable) view of the Second Amendment?
The Second Amendment says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Thomas Jefferson and Gouverneur Morris understood sentence structure. Commas mean the citizen is to be part of a regulated state militia. We had a wild frontier and firearms were single-shot muzzle loaders. Standardized locks (firing mechanisms) were just being developed in France.

(8,696 posts)First, a little advice to the NRA: Wash all the money your making from this twice...I'm sure all the blood will come out on the second wash.
Second, we know how this crazy scheme is going to end: some white, southern redneck that is a NRA "trained" gun "enthusiast" is going to open fire on a plain clothes police officer or federal agent visiting their child and who happens to be hispanic or black and who has his service weapon in a shoulder holster and the reason will be because he "looked suspicious" or there might be an actual incident and same said gun "enthusiast" with his own set of 10-round clips starts a fire fight in the middle of school, killing as many innocent kids as the other fool does.
A gun in a school, held be anybody other than specially trained law enforcement, is a clear and present danger to the safety of students, teachers and guests.

This seems so obvious . . . but then again, I have never identified with John Wayne coming to the rescue of the schoolmarm
