Roger Ebert's beloved wife Chaz on her husband's passing...

"I am devastated by the loss of my love, Roger -- my husband, my friend, my confidante and oh-so-brilliant partner of over 20 years. He fought a courageous fight. I've lost the love of my life and the world has lost a visionary and a creative and generous spirit who touched so many people all over the world. We had a lovely, lovely life together, more beautiful and epic than a movie...."

"We were getting ready to go home today for hospice care, when he looked at us, smiled, and passed away. No struggle, no pain, just a quiet, dignified transition..."We are touched by all the kindness and the outpouring of love we've received. And I want to echo what Roger said in his last blog, thank you for going on this journey with us."

Meantime, to help lift spirits, a lil humorous blast from the past from the man himself and his longtime colleague Siskel.

RIP Roger.

I'll miss him. He's been around forever. No more thinking, "How did Ebert rate that movie?" Honeycombe8 Apr 2013 #11

of what a wonderful, fulfilling, and comforting thing marriage can be. I know it is for me. I am so sorry Chaz has lost her life partner. Sounds like she has a lot of loving memories to keep close to her heart.

May your pain pass gently too, and may you be left with just the beautiful memories.

for a "celebrity".

Mr. pig and I watched "Sis & Ebe" from way back in the day. He actually pulled over on his way to work to call me and say he'd just heard on the radio that Rog had died.

Roger's statement on death was one of the most beautiful things I've read:

"I know it is coming, and I do not fear it, because I believe there is nothing on the other side of death to fear.

I hope to be spared as much pain as possible on the approach path. I was perfectly content before I was born, and I think of death as the same state. What I am grateful for is the gift of intelligence, and for life, love, wonder, and laughter. You can’t say it wasn’t interesting. My lifetime’s memories are what I have brought home from the trip. I will require them for eternity no more than that little souvenir of the Eiffel Tower I brought home from Paris."

Go in peace, Roger.

Edited to add -Roger was fortunate to have found such a wonderful life partner in Chaz. All I've ever read is that they were a perfect match, and that makes me happy for the time they were able to spend together.
