and not the deranged nuts we now have. No party does everything right 100% of the time. And nothing makes an entity better than real, honest competition. One example is the horrific scandal of the wait times to even get an answer for a disability case out of the VA. Yes, it was bad under Bush and the wars he got us into sure didn't help matters, but that said, it got worse under Obama, and it is a total scandal. Yet, because we have a deranged and nutty opposition party no one pays attention to this. Other than the Maddow show, there has been precious little coverage of this national scandal. No secretaries of veterans affairs have been fired for this. Until very recently no VA employees of any kind have been fired over this.
A real opposition party would have passed the following law in the House, the VA has 3 months from the filing of a claim until they either approve, write back disapproving, or ask for more info. If they don't do any of the three in the three month period, then they will pay the claim to the claimant who doesn't have to pay it back until such time as the VA either disapproves of the claim or asks for more info. Appeals of disapproval will be heard in 3 months or the claim starts getting paid again, and again the money doesn't have to be paid back. I bet the govt would get its act together real quick then.
On Maddow recently we have been told yet again, that his disgraceful problem has been solved. It should be.

(634 posts)Is a Democratic Party that can actually expect its leaders to act like Democrats ( third way need not apply ).
And, perhaps, a forum where dissent is not met with an avalanche of attacks, "troll" accusations, and censorship by the sychophantic idol worshippers.

(52,152 posts)I think this is a case where the problem didn't get attention like it should have and thus was permitted to continue. Had this been an issue in 2010, I think it would be over by now.
would definitely be nice if the GOP would moderate its policies at least a little bit, perhaps even return to how the party used to be before Reagan. It's not good for our democracy if there is just one dominant party. I believe Republicans can still win on a platform of lower taxes, though. Lowering taxes tends to be an attractive idea to many Americans. But their problem is that they refuse to ditch the weirdo socially conservative stuff. They want to continue pissing off minorities with the dog whistles and trying to keep us from the polls, and they want to continue telling gay people and women what they can and cannot do in their bedrooms. This is why people are getting turned off by them. They offer close to no decent ideas for getting this country back on the right path. Hell, they don't even want to adopt drug legalization to their platform, like Bill Maher once suggested.
Also, I am in no way, shape, or form condoning voting 3rd party, but maybe if we had some type of changes to our voting system (such as instant run-off in the GE), then our options for president wouldn't be so limited, and people on the left who are often disillusioned by the Democrats would be free to vote for whoever they want instead of AGAINST a certain party. People could rank all the candidates in terms of who most closely mirrors their ideology. I know that we did something like that in the local mayoral election, and it seemed to work out decently.
