(52,130 posts)have significant enough barriers to abortion forced on them to cause the backlash. I think it in many ways parallels which gay issues get highlighted and which don't. Bullying and ENDA which affect children and people who don't live in the media capitals of the world get precious little press and attention from big gay while marriage the one place even New Yorkers need the feds to have real progress gets a ton of press and attention. I think if women who lived in DC and New York who were realitively well off had routine barriers to abortion put in front of them, the backlash would be immediate. As it is right now, middle class and wealthier women can get abortions pretty much no matter where they are from, it might be a PITA for them but it can be done.

(37,457 posts)Case in point: In North Dakota and Mississippi (I think), it is very difficult to get an abortion. My understanding is a woman in ND has to drive hours to Minneapolis or Montana to obtain one. That's insane and wrong.
Unfortunately, I think it will require Roe being overturned by this court or a more RW one before the true backlash happens in Congress and state legislatures. I hope I'm wrong.
