(10,893 posts)how much higher the gas prices are today, compared to when I was a kid. I can remember just a little over a decade ago, gas costed less than $2. I guess being a perennial pedestrian has its own benefits in this case.

(11,862 posts)as teenagers...we did siphon a gallon or probably a pint to get us to our next destination...today it would be grand theft..back then it was petty theft

(51,076 posts)I must be real old, huh. (-:
the cheapest I bought was 19 cents and this would have been the early 60s
After coming home from the service in oct. of '70 I bought a vw beetle. I could fill it up for 3 bucks and drive for a week on that. course a weeks wages then was in the 50 dollar range unless you had a good job then you might make 60 bucks a week. Being VN vet and a hippie too I didn't have too many of the goooood jobs then.

(75,480 posts)three weeks ago for five gallons that I hoped would get me to a place that was cheaper, and that was today. Still a robbery.

(114 posts)..the old timer here but I worked at a gas station in the 1950's when gas was normally 32 cents for hi-test and 30 cents for regular but their was always a gas war on and gas would be 12 cents per gal. Gosh that seem so long ago but to me it as yesterday.

(75,480 posts)I understand, we still shouldn't be paying more than $2 a gallon today.

(794 posts)The bulk of the gasoline purchase expense is paid for by tax payers; military aid and saftey for the drilling spots, delivery process and refining. The bulk of our foriegn policy expenditures have to do with political and social postitioning for fuel industry insiders and power brokers. Each gallon of gas sold in America actually has a cost closer to 13 dollars a gallon. But wealthy fuel industry insiders are only making nearly 75% profit after tax dodges and subsidies.

(46,179 posts)Too much IS Obama's fault; I'm not a fan, and I've never pretended to be.
The things I'm hearing these days, though, drive me crazy. I live in a red area. A semi-rural red area. I shouldn't be surprised. Last week, though, I bought a couple of tons of hay from a guy who explained that Obama is buying up all the ammo so that private citizens can't get it; that law enforcement can't even use some of that ammo, so why is he buying it, and that he's buying so much that they do use that there is a serious supply problem. Our law enforcement officers don't have enough to protect us.
This week, my right-wing nut job Beck-loving custodian has been ranting on about Obama taking all our guns. Okay. I'm not surprised to hear that from him, but I'm hearing BOTH the "he's buying up all the ammo" AND "he's taking all our guns" from several students as well.
Yesterday, I explained, patiently, to another student that the President doesn't make laws. The response? "But he tells them what to write."
And..."That's what Hitler did, too. Took all the guns. It's a long term plan."
And..."He's a bought president. People think he got the votes, but it was the voting machines."
