Breaking (AP) Roger Ebert dead at 70

Roger was an incredible guy and showed more grace & courage in facing his horrible cancer than anyone could expect of a person. Not to mention what an incredible progressive voice he offered for all of us. RIP, Roger. I'll miss you.

Roger Ebert dead: A film critic with the soul of a poet
It was reviewing movies that made Roger Ebert as famous and wealthy as many of the stars who felt the sting or caress of his pen or were the recipients of his televised thumbs-up or thumbs-down judgments. But in his words and in his life he displayed the soul of a poet whose passions and interests extended far beyond the darkened theaters where he spent so much of his professional life.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning movie critic for the Chicago Sun-Times for more than 45 years and for more than three decades the co-host of one of the most powerful programs in television history (initially with the late Gene Siskel, the movie critic for the Chicago Tribune, and, following Siskel’s death in 1999, with his Sun-Times collogue Richard Roeper), Ebert died Thursday, according to a family friend.

He was 70 years old.

Even still, he kept writing and remained as active as he could be. He was planning to host the 15th annual Roger Ebert’s Film Festival later this month in his hometown of Champaign-Urbana.

about taking time from his writing to deal with his cancer.

RIP Ebert. Your criticism has continued my love of movies.

He knew what the future held...he had already experienced all the treatment and didn't want to resume all the pain and suffering again. I wouldn't have wanted to face it either. Good for him!
I believe he is a courageous man. Just my humble opinion. May he rest in peace! Bless him!

There is almost no one else who I respect more as a movie critic. The chances were always high, that if he enjoyed a movie, so did I, for the same reasons he'd specify. He truly loved the movies and every aspect of them. I will miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Most know Ebert as a film critic, but his political writings were outstanding.

This makes me really sad.

I always enjoyed his reviews, and never felt he "dumbed down" cinema at all, as some claimed he did.
