our own disasters,nuclear included

Hanford nuclear waste tanks may explode...
P, April 3, 2013 (h/t Anonymous tip): Underground tanks that hold a stew of toxic, radioactive waste at the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site pose a possible risk of explosion, [the congressionally appointed Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB)] said [...] State and federal officials have long known that hydrogen gas could build up inside the tanks at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, leading to an explosion that would release radioactive material. [...] In addition to the leaks, the board noted concerns about the potential for hydrogen gas buildup within a tank, in particular those with a double wall, which contain deadly waste that was previously pumped out of the leaking single-shell tanks. [...]

loomberg, March 6, 2013: Washington Nuke Leak May Be Years From Answer, Inslee Say [...] Washington Governor Jay Inslee said it may take as much as four years to begin transferring radioactive sludge from leaking underground tanks at the former nuclear weapons production complex known as the Hanford Site. [...] “It’s the only option other than just to let this material leak into the topsoil of the State of Washington for decades,” said Inslee [...] “Every bit of the waste that drips out of these tanks is going to be a problem for someone,” said Dan Serres, conservation director of Columbia Riverkeeper [...]

Now a mystery odor...

Times-Picayune, April 3, 2013: The Coast Guard and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality are investigating widespread reports of odors, ranging from burning rubber to oil and gas, in the New Orleans area, according to spokesmen for both agencies. “We have received calls from the public regarding the odors, and we’re currently investigating these issues and working to pinpoint the source,” said DEQ spokesman Tim Beckstrom. “Personnel from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans are working with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to investigate the source of a report of a gas smell near Terrytown,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class Bil Colclough. Widespread mystery odor reported across New Orleans area — Oil, natural gas suspected — Coast Guard investigating (VIDEO)

Dursban was very distinct. I don't see how people can confuse it with natural gas or burning rubber. Having distributed Dursban and Diazinon granules/liquid for a year through an Ace Hardware (which caused hospital grade hives twice), I can say it has a pesticide smell! Anyone that claims it smells of something as distinct as Dursban has a sharp nose. I believe you on this one! I hope it isn't a pesticide in the air because one exposure to granules dust from loading a trailer with 10lb bags was enough to cause me to get MCS and growths on my skin.

And..now....

4:05p ET

The Office of Conservation, in consultation with Assumption Parish Incident Command, is advising the public that the Oxy 3/sinkhole monitoring alert status has been raised to Code 2 – requiring all work directly in and over the sinkhole to cease until further notice. Seismic monitoring has detected elevated subsurface activity in the area around the sinkhole and Oxy 3 area indicative of fluid and gas movement below the sinkhole and water movement has been observed at the sinkhole surface. The seismic activity is limited to the Oxy 3/sinkhole area, showing no indication of impact to the Oxy 1 area. Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will continue to advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions

How long will this betrayal by the oil and gas companies be tolerated? Are we gonna let them kill us? Is money anything but a piece of paper? We need to change beliefs, lest the greed of a few kill us,literally.
