GOP Wants To Weaken Overtime Law - Give Employees Choice Of Comp Time vs 1 1/2 Time Pay

Last edited Thu Apr 4, 2013, 02:21 AM - Edit history (1)

If I were a Democrat I would consider approving if the comp time was 1 1/2 times the overage. If you have 8 hours overtime then you get 12 hours of comp time. With pay!

instead of yowling that there is no coverage, maybe you can take a vacation next year.

Uh, no, guys, if you're too cheap to hire adequate help to cover for sick days and vacations, you need come in and do the work yourselves.

to fall for this shit?

If they have such piss poor coverage that they need overtime they will never be able to give people the comp time. It's the Schrodinger's cat of time off. An endless wave of comp time for the guy working overtime for the guy who worked overtime last week.

Comp time reduces an employee's lifetime earnings and corresponding SS benefits, as well as government revenues.

It wasn't very popular then, and they want to try it again and repair their image as the out of touch party for the plutocracy?

Good luck with that.

Comp time that you can somehow just never get because you are always short staffed and it eventually it just gets "lost" in the shuffle.

Not just NO, HELL NO!

and your comp time is 1:1 not 1:1.5 - that's if they recognize your overtime.

Time and a half eats away at the budget but projects still need to get done on budget. It sucks.

perhaps we would not have so much unemployment. And they would seldom need to pay overtime.

But they don't want employees to have any down time at all. They want pressure and production from the moment you hit the front door till the moment you leave.

Comp time is a terrible idea. Employers can pressure you to never take it. There would be no financial disincentive to working employees mercilessly during busy times.

This would be ant-family legislation in a number of ways.
