A libertarian-leaning Republican congressman from Michigan who has been billed as the new Ron Paul says that he would ban abortion-causing birth control and a womans right to choose abortion more than three days after conception.
In an interview published on Monday, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) told Reasons Nick Gillespie that he favored as little federal government as possible on issues like same sex marriage.
I dont think there should be federal definition of marriage, Amash explained. So I think the federal government should just stay out of this. Really, marriage should be a private contract that has nothing to do with government.
But when it came to abortion, the Michigan Republican said that he wanted to see the government take a major role in forcing women to go through with unwanted pregnancies.
Its a tricky question, but where we have it now is not correct, Amash insisted. It should be closer to the point of conception, whether its instantly or the first three days. I think thats more sensible. Thats what I think would be correct.

(36,974 posts)1) Who the heck knows they are pregnant three days after conception.
2) Apparently he does not know that 1,100 benefits come along with a legal marriage - the 'marriage contract' has a lot to do with 'government'.
The more the Republicans talk about women's issues and the marriage issue the stupider they look!

(1,372 posts)I can't imagine what it would be like if they ever start to revive the people
who are cryogenically frozen.
Now, picture this:
What would a map of the U.S. look like if we allowed states to determine their own laws.
They would be speckled with all the variations that people could choose. You would not be able to decide where to move because the states that had the laws you liked probably wouldn't have the climate
you were looking for.
Are we just going to evolve into a massive hodgepodge of can-dos and can't-dos.
Will we need to carry a rule book to tell us how we can act in each state?
What a mess!
The problem (as I see it) comes from the conservatives not being able to live
and let live. Nobody forces them to do things - They have the choice to choose
but they have to stick their nose in everyone's business and tell others how to act.
I think they should go back to Europe. This is what we came to the U.S. to get away from!

(15,682 posts)men and women look at porn from time to time. I was just reminded of the Republican National Convention when the strip clubs were expecting to cash in. Right wingers do the same shit as lefties but hate themselves for doing it. Sad.
