My e-mail to the Joe SCABS circus

FYI, as an original viewer based on the replacement of IMUS, despite the continual irritations of Joe SCABS, BARNICLE, (the then) BUCHANAN, FORD Jr, et al., I finally had enough halfway through Campaign ‘12 and have totally tuned out. And guess where I landed, rediscovering IMUS, basically because of the modicum of variety and the mental traps he lays for his clueless famous guests. With the SCABS circus it is unrelentingly the one-note ideological divide. Just thought you need to know, doubt that you will listen. (I see it’s impossible to e-mail the show now.)

(Note to DU thread: ) Since I last e-mailed them, it is now impossible to do that, their having disappeared the "What Should We Be Talking About?" page, which was only active during the showtime. I sent this through the general "Media Inquiries" page for forwarding.

I dug through their show page, the Bios, the About, the e-form I used to use was nowhere there. As for IMUS, I have detested him since the White House Correspondents circus where he evicerated CLINTON. But he makes his guests squirm before they know what's happening and it's fun to see who can deal and who can't.

The fun is the pitting of the Southwestern supposed yokel against Eastern elites, how the yokel chip-on-the-shoulder outwitting his superiors. His jerky wife mirrors this, battling the attorney Lis WIEHL, lacing it with crude insults.

Two examples:

sLimus kisses up to O'LOOFAH most grovelingly. Yet, the sandbagging happens after the groveling set-up. O'LOOFAH was flogging his ghost-book "Killing KENNEDY," and was waxing about how much new stuff HE personally had "discovered." So sLimus let him go on and on. What I/we know is that during O'LOOFAH's "war correspondent" days (the Falklands War, haha), he developed a supposedly HUGH!1 story and thought he would break into lots of face time on the evening news, but the network decided to "bigfoot" him by sending in Bob SCHIEFFER to have a big star read the story on the news. This is one of the many big things stuck in his craw about the networks. So finally sLimus interruped him and asked him, "Did you know what Bob SCHIEFFER's big break was during the JFK assassination?" There was a stunned silence, then O'LOOFAH said stiffly, "No." So sLimus innocently tells him that SCHIEFFER was a young, local reporter and was in the newsroom when OSWALD's mother called asking for a ride to OSWALD's apartment, so SCHIEFFER jumped to do the driving, the beginning of his national career. O'LOOFAH was somewhere between steaming and freezing in response.

So with Doris Kearns GOODWIN when the movie Lincoln was all the rage, he buttered her up with how it was based on her scholarly book. She modestly let him go on. When she was all buttered, he slammed, "Have you read (O'LOOFAH's) 'Killing Lincoln'?" She was taken aback at the comparison of the two books and said, "No." He proceeded to tell her that that piece of non-scholarly crap had stayed on the NYT best sellers' list for a year or whatever, despite not being so classy as hers. Crickets.

I make no excuses for him or for my tuning in. The key word is "variety." While he, also, like almost all the yak shows, have a recurring stable of the same jerks, at least it's not totally predictable every dang day.
