More than 1.2 million people died prematurely in China in 2010 as a result of outdoor air pollution, a new analysis of scientific data shows.
The summaryreleased Sunday in Beijing and first published by the Lancet, a British medical journalis based on 2010's Global Burden of Disease Study and was reported on by The New York Times.
Air pollution led to 3.2 million deaths worldwide in 2010, the study found, with China contributing more than a third of them.
Ambient particulate matter pollution was listed fourth among the leading risk factors for deaths in China, the Times noted, behind dietary risks, high blood pressure and smoking.
Reports like these "are politically threatening in the eyes of some Chinese officials," the Times reported:

(19,972 posts)1. Oh well, that's China's problem.
I'm sure they've trained their so-called "ambient particulate matter pollution" to respect international airspace.

I doubt they'll do much in the short term, they're not going to get too upset about the population dying off. Thanks to Mao's idiotic pro natalist policies, their population is still growing as the last of the children born then have their own child. It's the same reason they're not attacking the massive public health issue of the heavy smoking they do over there.

Old people "leaving" will save their government money.. I don't see them doing much about it until the 30-40 somethings start dying off.. China needs worker-bees..
