If the tar sands are going to come anyway, ...

I've posted in the lounge about magnetic putty and came across stuff about ferrofluids

Now I'm sure that there are those here who know a lot more about this stuff than I do, but I understand that in ordeer to get that crap to flow through pipelines they have to put in all sorts of additives. Why not reformulate it into a ferrous fluid so any spills could be cleaned up with magnets?
