Michelle Obama Gets Star-Struck Around Harrison Ford

TOM KLUDT 3:07 PM EDT, TUESDAY APRIL 2, 2013

It seems that the opportunity to hang out with Indiana Jones is enough to make even First Lady Michelle Obama giddy.

Hosting a film workshop Tuesday at the White House for the forthcoming Jackie Robinson biopic "42," Obama couldn't hide her excitement that she found herself in the presence of Harrison Ford, who stars in the movie.

"I want to thank Harrison Ford -- I’ve wanted to say that for a while," Obama said to laughs, according to an official White House transcript. "So you think you trip because I’m here? I’m tripping out because he’s here."

Ford plays Brooklyn Dodgers executive Branch Rickey in "42." It was Rickey who signed Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball's color barrier.

...you know, constantly interacting with the public and being first lady and all. It's not like anyone ever makes a big deal about her or that she has to deal with other peoples' awkwardness at being confronted with the wife of the most powerful person in the world.

I am presuming someone also brought up the "tripping out" expression about being at the White House with her. Best case scenario is it was Ford himself. If so, then her comment is a tad self depricating.

Her comments were in no way condescending! She is not only the wife of the President, but also VERY popular in her own way, and because of that, people regardless of political affiliation will be in awe when they see her!

Since it appears you are new here, I'm going to give you a tip. We don't take too kindly to negative comments about Mrs. Obama here on DEMOCRATIC Underground!

I usually try to write a response that mocks the right wing mind set that must be operating behind their faux concern, just to see if I can get a response.

Sadly, they tend to not last long enough.

I'm surprised some one said "LEAVE IT ALONE" ... maybe they wanted a chance to mock them too.

It's an inspiring story about overcoming the color line baseball, and an important one in our history. OF COURSE, she's excited about it!

I am too, now that I read this. I am going to see that film and I think I can get my sports nut of a husband to go, also!

I thought her use of slang was very endearing. I met her in 2008. She is every bit as genuine and friendly as she appears.
