Colorado theatre shooter: accept the plea or go for the death penalty?

I would assume most here would go for accepting his plea, as would I. I do understand that some of the families (most?) want the death penalty and I understand their anger. And there is little doubt he is guilty. But part of my reasoning for taking his plea is we can lock the guy up now and forget about him quicker that way. Him getting to go to court for however many months a trial would take is almost a 'reward' for someone like him who should be locked up and not see the light of day again.

1. Let him plead guilt as sin, express his deep regret and then sentence him to 100 years

it would be one of those things where the families wait for the day to get "justice" by putting him to death but when it happens they realize nothing has really changed.

I'm good with them going for the death penalty... I hope that is what he gets.

5. I sort of agree, but I hope his sordid story - guns, any mental illness, etc. - is studied.

at for the future. He ought to serve that purpose, he made a major transgression against society. Therefore, let him pay with his life in prison, being studied as a model of what we should NOT become in this country...

no freedom for him, no parole, no EVER being released into his former life. Just day after day in prison, locked up and forgotten by everyone, gone from our consciousness.

He can rot in prison for all I care...

I think that way too .

I believe that sociopaths that have committed heinous crimes should be used for medical experiments that would benefit mankind, especially if they get the death penalty. The end of their lives would be cush, and decent, just filled with medical experiments. I know this is illegal and could be considered a form of torture, but what if the convicted "volunteered" for such an end to life. He's going to get the death penalty anyway, why not use that for a force for "good", than just an eye for an eye? Then, maybe, the convict will be given an opportunity to offer his life for a good cause and maybe he truly will feel like he's paying his debt to society.

Maybe after 50+ years of mandatory psych visits we can figure out what gene causes shit like this.

We really need to find out exactly why people go on these crazy shooting sprees. Most of the time, the shooter kills themselves, but now we actually have a man who was captured in the middle of it.

Don't kill him. Study the hell out of him. Brain scans out the ass, actual study of the brain once he passes, mental health screening, etc.

I want to know how to stop these damn things exactly where they start, not having to go after the weapons that are used.
