US scraps plan to show base in S.Korea to media

US forces in South Korea have canceled their plan to allow media into their base just outside Seoul. Sources say showing the base could further upset North Korea.

A spokesperson of the US forces informed NHK of the decision on Monday.

The forces had planned to show F22 stealth fighter jets at the Osan Air Base on Tuesday. The planes are deployed in Okinawa, Japan, and scheduled to join the ongoing joint military drills with South Korea.

The spokesperson said the situation has changed, and that media will be allowed to watch a different drill at a later date.

North Korea reacted sharply to US revelations that a B52 bomber and radar-evading B2 bombers took part in the joint military exercises.
