Bloomberg plans to spend at least $100 million in Florida to support Biden

(CNN) Billionaire and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is planning to spend at least $100 million in the crucial battleground of Florida in support of Democratic nominee Joe Biden, a source familiar with the plans confirmed to CNN.

Last week a NBC News/Marist College poll showed the race in a dead heat in the Sunshine State with Biden and President Donald Trump each garnering support of 48% of likely voters.

"Mike Bloomberg is committed to helping defeat Trump, and that is going to happen in the battleground states. Mike's substantial investment in Florida, in addition to his contributions to the DNC and to voter protection and restoration efforts this cycle, will mean Democrats and the Biden campaign can invest even more heavily in other key states like Pennsylvania, which will be critical to a Biden victory," top Bloomberg adviser Kevin Sheekey told CNN.

The Washington Post, which first reported Bloomberg's expected expenditure, said the one-time Democratic presidential candidate decided to put in that large of an amount in Florida after it was reported in the New York Times and later confirmed by Trump that he is prepared to spend millions in support of his reelection effort, according to advisers.

Many political observers consider the state a must win for Trump to have a chance at winning the election.

4. Why should he be above criticism?

He promised to spend a billion. This is a good start. But that doesn’t make him above criticism. I thought only republicans thought rich white men shouldn’t be criticized.

$100 million down, $900 million to go. But that still doesn’t put him above being criticized. No should be above criticism, especially a billionaire with a history of supporting republicans.

12. If we are talking about his contributions to help Dems, I think the criticism is misplaced. That's

what this tread is about. Want to criticize him for being a GOPer at one time, I'm with you. But I'm forgoing that as long as he's helping us when needed.

He did promise to spend a billion to defeat Trump. $100 million is only 10% of that. Where’s the other $900 million?

3. In response to him doing this, I hope Biden then diverts more money

into shoring up support in NC and Georgia. Make the Trump campaign divert more of their money to try to hold on to those states.

I was going to say "if Bloomberg does that, let's make a play for Texas" but I know a lot of people here still feel (unlike me) that Texas is a lost cause.

If there are any here who don't think Texas is a lost cause, please tell me what you think.

But to be completely honest, I want more....
We have so many ex-felons here who can't vote until their fines are paid off - and while a great many can not even find out how much they owe to be able to do that - there are still many folks out there that do know the amount, just can't come up with the money. Lebron James has pledged to help out and I really hope that Bloomberg's next move will be to pay off some of these fines too....
