about Trump not doing anything. We need a manager/leader to rise up and say do this and this and this now.

this most excellent Rolling Stones article: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/covid-19-end-of-american-era-wade-davis-1038206/

(I think Chris Meloni posted a few sections of the article but this particular tweet didn't have quotes or the attribution, which he acknowledged in another tweet).

and wanted to thank you again for posting that link.

it is a fantastic piece of writing (i facebooked it, i tweeted it)

there were some shocking moments in there (shocking because it's true), and while i found myself feeling angry over what has happened to this country across time, i also found it very heartbreaking.

"The Unraveling of America
Anthropologist Wade Davis on how COVID-19 signals the end of the American era"

i highly recommend this.

You're welcome! It was funny because I had just read the article yesterday morning, and when I saw the OP and read the words, they sounded so familiar, which sent me on my little investigation.

i think to myself: i haven't been taking all these precautions and being so damn careful just so these selfish assholes can do whatever the fuck they want and keep everything fucked up

Lost to the right-wing world of individuality and self-reliance which make us easier to control and manipulate.

It's just very sad. I am beyond angry now. I am just really sad. What has happened to us as a nation? We are not the same country that we were, say back in WWII. Of course we aren't. Change is inevitable, but our essential charachter did not have to be lost.

But something very essential in the American spirit has been lost over the last century. It has slowly been eroded by a creeping tribalism, selfishness and nihilism that seems to have reached it's culmination here in the Trump era.
