Here in NH, at least my corner if it, you dont see much open carry. In fact, I couldnt even tell you what the law is on open or concealed carry.
So, this morning I see a guy carrying a semi automatic on one hip and a cell phone on the other. Oh, and a dont tread on me t shirt. This is on the grocery store. I had a few thoughts. He looked stupid. Its the fucking market basket, not the streets of Baghdad. My next thought was that if something happened Id put even odds that he would grab the cell phone instead of the gun. Its pathetic to feel you have to open carry a weapon on a grocery store to feel safe.
This is not a discussion of open carry or r2kba. This is an observation of one idiotic individual in the supermarket.

(11,578 posts)...and tell the store manager why. I would also tell them I would not be back until open carry in the store was not permitted.
If there weren't other grocery stores nearby I would go out of my way to shop elsewhere.

(13,903 posts)You don't have a right to walk into a private business carrying a gun if they do not wish you to.

(7,412 posts)At that point they would lose the right to open carry or even be there.
So I should say it is more practical to hang clear, legally binding signage of the owner's wishes.

(8,922 posts)That's always my first thought when I see one of those morons.
They think it makes them look "tough".

(14,144 posts)Is a macho meathead who thinks he is advertising to the world his bona fides of extreme masculinity dripping from his every pore.
It has nothing to do with danger or protection from same. But more to do with a little boy desperate to show the world how tough a man that little boy has matured into. He commands attention, fear, and respect, as he sees in his eye and tiny sophomoric mind that is saturated in toxic masculinity absent and devoid of any speck of humanity.

I think there may be a failure of imagination here despite the flair for the dramatic.

(9,442 posts)Many are the same jerks who don't want to mask up. However, they feel the need to protect themselves with guns from who knows what because it's so risky going to the grocery store. I guess you never know when things could get ugly and result in a shootout over a stale cupcake. But 162,707 COVID deaths in the US today and somehow they don't think that's a problem for them. Frickin' idiots.

(45,426 posts)so accidental discharges or shooting someone over a petty dispute happens often. But in case of an actual mass shooting, these people run and hide instead of being a hero.

(1,730 posts)I always suspect they may have a need. Scumbags are always afraid somebody is coming for them.
They've got a target on their backs and they're putting other people at risk.
Even if they don't......easy access to lethal force isn't something to be encouraged. People (especially inexperienced ones) make mistakes.
Kick them out.

(10,749 posts)Yes, as was The woman he was shopping with.
The city has mandated masks for all indoor businesses. Id say compliance is close to 100% in the places I regularly go to.

(10,125 posts)Unless they were hunting on my property. To why I would call their attention to the Posted No Hunting signs and ask them to move out. Never once an issue.
This guy was looking for trouble/confrontation and the cell phone was there to video tape anyone "daring" to say something imo.
I strangely miss Market Basket and Shaw's...
