A federal court in Florida has ruled that it is unconstitutional for schools to ban transgender students from using the restroom that matches their gender identity. Judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit announced on Friday that they are affirming a lower court's ruling on the matter because "a public school may not punish its students for gender conformity."

So eventually it may be possible to change human's genomes to match their gender identity, among other things.

(21,046 posts)Most people are born 44+XX (female) or 44+XY (male). The 46 chromosomes, 44 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes which determine sex, are in every cell in the body except gametes and red blood cells. They can't be changed.
Sexual dimorphism is a thing that can't be changed either. Biological sex is fixed and immutable. I don't think MtF people have the right to tell biological women that they can't use the term "woman" to mean "adult human female".

(1,474 posts)In my little town in Washington, the schools give trans students a choice and also offer individual restrooms that are actually not gendered. The local high school similarly makes accommodations for trans students on a case-by-case basis, and it goes pretty well.
Across the border in Idaho, anti-trans activists are a lot more powerful and, as you would expect, trans students have a much worse time.

(67,101 posts)absolutely horrible to be a trans child, as well as an adult. So many non-trans use gradeschool playground logic and taunting.
