Mnuchin threatens to make taxpayers pay back COVID money unless Trump is reelected

Published 8 mins ago on August 9, 2020

By David Edwards

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin suggested on Sunday that Americans will have to pay the government back for any payroll tax reduction unless President Donald Trump is reelected.

In an interview on FOX, host Chris Wallace noted that the president’s latest executive action on COVID-19 financial relief is “not a tax cut.”

“It’s a payroll tax suspension,” Wallace explained. “Isn’t there a danger that a lot of businesses won’t pass these saving through to workers because they’re going to hold on to the money because at some point, according to this executive action by the end of the year, those payroll taxes are going to be have to be paid anyway?”

“Well, the president wanted to do a payroll tax cut,” Mnuchin replied. “We could do the payroll tax deferral. He’s going to go to the American people and tell them that when he’s reelected, he will push through legislation to forgive that so, in essence, it will turn into a payroll tax cut.”

Hey Mnuchin, did you ever pay into Social Security and Medicare while you foreclosing on peoples homes............nope because asshole you made over $125,000.01 and you didn't have to pay into the system after that amount..............but all of us that paid into the system paid for your lack of not paying into the system after the $125,000.01 into the fund and now you want to take it from some the general fund, that supports the program.............maybe you and other elites need to pay into the fund after the $125,000.01 has been reached............asshole.............

To include the amount. 👍

Is this what this debacle is about, in the short term? 🤬

Thing repukes don't understand is that once all social programs are cut, repukes would raise taxes sky high on working class.

That's the reuke dream!

In TN, there's no state income tax, but sales tax is sky high. So low wage earners & those on food stamps are paying tge way for big $ earners. Meanwhile, the infrastructure continues to crumble.🤬

It should be cut, thus forcing them to institute a state income tax or raising the one they have.

They also should eliminate their sales taxes on essential items. In Michigan, we don’t tax food, for example.

bad some of the areas were- not even just the roads, but like piles of garbage on the sides of the road. I don't know what they are spending the money on! People also said we were dumb for buying a house in DeSoto county since my husband worked in Memphis because we had to pay income tax, but I thought it was worth it for the better schools. We would have spent a lot more than the cost of income tax on a house in a good neighborhood and private schools. And then the people there complain about the damn liberal Yankees in the blue states who are paying to support them. There are things I miss about living there, but overall I was glad we moved back up north. Our schools are nice, we have excellent community programs which we didn't have at all in MS, and we have an excellent library and nice roads- we pay a lot more in taxes, but you get what you pay for

move? Our original plan was to do 5 more years in Wisconsin and then move to Texas because that's where my husband is from but we'll see how that works out. So far we have had many opportunities to move to Texas and for some reason or another decide against it. The tide seems to be turning there politically so maybe by the time we actually make the move it will be a blue state 😁

I’m tired of the blue states supporting red states that keep their taxes low so they can get more federal dollars.

We do not have a state income tax in Texas, but everything else is taxed. Property taxes are much higher here than what I experienced in the Northeast. I’m sure Texas gets its share of federal dollars, except for one area. State officials refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA, so it has the distinction of being number 1 in the country for the highest number of people without health insurance. And in a fit of Christian domination a few years ago, the state severely cut funding for women's health clinics serving mostly poor women without health insurance in an effort to force Planned Parenthood out of business in Texas. The result was 81 clinics closed, only three of which had ever performed an abortion and thousands of poor women with no healthcare. Another result was a spike in maternal death rates. Texas has one of the highest rates among developed countries, especially for Black women.

what happens to he and his asshole trophy wife when our citizens say 'enough' we're nearing that point now?

I 'get' some level/acknowledgment to help businesses during this trump recession, but there MUST be significant and out of the box efforts (and at more than table scraps of $600 a month or whatever) to help us, 'we the people,' who are starving and may not have a roof over our head soon.

There were several points in Trumps little speech where he basically engaged in bribery, using the nations treasury. It's what he got impeached for. Hey, Collins, ya think he learned his lesson? Yeah, you taught him something alright. You taught him that he could get away with it.
