I find it necessary to reach for the language and colorful colloquialisms of my native land, New Jersey, in order to express my feelings about todays event in Bedmimster. It was a fucking travesty. Truly. An utter Fucking disgrace. The President of /1
the United States of America stood behind the Seal of his office framed by American flags and his private clubs membership slurring and raving about his victimization. His titanic self pity was only exceeded by his dishonesty and uncontrolled lying. His lying was only /2.
Subordinate to his staggering idiocy, ignorance, ineptitude and incompetence. The incompetence, even after all this time, shocks the conscience. 162,000 Americans are dead and the economy is shattered. So many more will die. The evictions, foreclosures and small business closings 3/
are just beginning. We are in the early hours of one of the greatest tragedies in our countries history. None of it had to be, but it has happened because Donald Trump is President. His malice, stupidity, ego and insecurity are a lethal combination. He has wrecked this country 4/
in less than four years. He has induced a national nosedive, a decline that is precipitous, dangerous and humiliating. The world is more dangerous. American soldiers are hunted like animals by Taliban killers who are paid bounties by Russian killers and Trump does nothing 5/
But KowTow to Putin and advance his agenda. Trump has divided the country and pitted Americans against each other. He has loosed violence against Peacefully assembled US Citizens and deployed militarized paramilitary forces to escalate tensions in American cities in the name of /6
Law and order when the real purpose and mission is to stoke the embers of chaos and create Fear. Fear, built on a mountain of lies, is the Autocrats sword and shield. Trump stokes fear to abuse his power and press forward with his assaults on the rule of law, our essential 7/
Institutions and our national comity all in the name of his corruption, aggrandizement and cult of personality. It is a despicable hour in the life of this country. This will be ended because it must end. We will lose the country if Trump isnt repudiated. Make no mistake 8/
About the intentions of a President who is openly undermining the 231 year old tradition of American elections. He is undermining the legitimacy of the coming election with no regard for the consequences to liberal democracy here and around the world. Fascism didnt rise 9/
In the thirties because it was strong. It rose because Democracy was weak. American Democracy is weak, decayed and led by an illiberal man who, Id he could would cancel the election, lock up his political opponents, enrich his friends and remain in power for life 10/
Trump is the greatest failure in American History. No American has failed historys test in a more spectacular fashion. His stoking of racial tensions and a cold civil war in our land will live in infamy. His disgrace will be eternal.@ProjectLincoln

(6,226 posts)as long as they want to get rid of trump. Same for Morning Joe. Every morning he and the panel attack trump et al, but folks want to keep bringing up the past.

(81,392 posts)Theres a line from a story I read that fits this situation, IMO: In the matter of allies, you need to ask yourself two things: Can they shoot? And will they aim at your enemy?
We dont have to be best friends with these people or trust them unconditionally, but if they shoot in the right direction, Im all for it. Besides, some may actually see the error of their ways and embrace more liberal positions. I can hope, cant I?

(4,673 posts)midst of this horror show. With that failure, he's back to what he was doing before, trying to unseat 45. But going with a spoiler candidate for a while to me undercut all his eloquence and fervor.
Glad he's back but ...

Trump just attacked Social Security and Medicare.
Trump promises permanent cut to payroll tax funding Social Security and Medicare if he's reelected.

(32,074 posts)Schmidt isn't really "on our side." He does have the same goal, however. I would rather be fighting alongside him to attain that goal, than against him. Especially considering the gravity of the situation we are in.

(34,333 posts)stand for, but I have no qualms about teaming up with them until that thing currently infesting the White House is ejected. Then we can get back to our regularly scheduled programming. We're in an existential battle for the planet and I'm not exaggerating. We need all the help we can get.

(14,558 posts)I am OK with Schmidt, but remember he is generally conservative - not socially so much, but a believer in market solutions over government ones.
But, you know, we can work with a guy like Schmidt, because he ALSO has something today's Trump party does not - an actual desire to govern us. See, we need conservatives AND progressives AND people in the middle, but for the republic to work, they all have to a) be willing to debate, b) be willing to compromise, and c) be willing to work together in good faith to move us forward.
Trump is the utter, pathetic, disgusting, demonic antithesis of those three characteristics. God, WHY did we elect a guy who has the emotional maturity of a 5 year old playground bully? Why?

(10,823 posts)Or who and what they supported to admit that they're fighting the good fight in the now. They're fighting with us rather than against us. For the moment, that's all that matters. Because without a decisive win in November, we all lose. Everything.
Steve Schmidt is one of the more eloquent conservative voices out there. Personally, I'm glad he and other Never Trumpers have joined the fight because we need as many voices, shoulders, determined minds as possible to defeat Trump and Trumpism.
We all sense that we're staring into the abyss. Unless we want to pitch forward into the darkness, we'd be well advised to accept any and all help. Even if it's of a temporary nature.
Priorities.

(19,958 posts)You know, one of the wizards who's smart and knows how to create "success" out of thin air! He's not one of those lazy bureaucrats who goes into gubment and takes all your money, doesn't produce anything, and you can't get rid of them. Drain the swamp! And he's surrounded himself with the most successful businessmen who really know how to do stuff or they wouldn't be rich, right? Right, Steve? Amirite?
Perhaps "businessmen" should stick with the "business" of self-enrichment and leave government to those smart enough to understand and manage it for the benefit of The People.
