Delaying the election enough would mean that Nancy Pelosi would become President on Jan 21 2021. Trump's and Pence's terms expire on that date, and that fact isn't changed by moving the vote.

Or, I suppose, the House Democratic majority could elect someone else Speaker, say Joe Biden. I don't think that the Speaker has to be an elected representative. Then when Joe goes off to be POTUS, the House could elect say, Nancy Pelosi to replace him as Speaker and the President could nominate [whoever] to be Vice-President. Seems to work out OK.

ETA: No, turns out I was wrong here. The terms of the members of the House do expire, on Jan 1, as do the terms of the Senators who are up for re-election. However, those of Senators not on the ballot do not, so we are left with a Congress consisting of (this year) 65 Senators. By pure chance, 30 of them are Republican and 35 are Democratic. The third person in line for the Presidency, after the VP and House Speaker, is the President pro-tempore of the Senate. Our Senate majority could elect anyone they wanted to that post, say Joe Biden, on Jan. 1 and three weeks later he would become President.

Btw, the fourth person in line is the Secretary of State, followed by the rest of the Cabinet. I don't know how that works when the President's term has expired. Is there still a Cabinet? The Laws of Succession assume that the President is dead and hence no longer in office, yet they name the members of the Cabinet. I hope we never find out.

He has failed to support the Constitution since he was sworn Jan. 20, 2016. The very strong and very powerful Lt. Gen. Flynn even conducted a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia from his seat in the stands.

The guy has incited NAZIs. He appeals openly to racists. He calls the press, “Enemies of the People.” He has done nothing to ameliorate a pandemic that’s killed 150,000 US citizens.

Unless We the People oppose him, he won’t be stopped.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer weighed in:

“If we could hold an election in 1864 in the midst of a Civil War threatening to tear our country apart, we can and will hold one in 2020," Whitmer said "It’s time for the president to get his priorities straight and work with Congress on a bipartisan recovery package that protects our families, front-line workers, and small business owners.”
