Why do they want to hide it? marybourg Jul 2020 #1
I don't know. They always report totals by state, never per capita by state. lagomorph777 Jul 2020 #3
Both NYT and Wapo have maps that go down to the county level. marybourg Jul 2020 #4

That procedure tends to give low population states a pass, even if their infection rates are horrible. Naturally, such states tend to be red states. Total coincidence, I'm sure.

Would it kill TV outlets to share this too?

It just occurred to me what the root of the word "county" must be.

Per capita is the best way to understand the trends.

I learn so much here - have to give back sometimes. Even if it's just a link from a 2 minute search.

Anything that involves numbers, math, graphs, or data in general is rarely covered well by any of the generic media. You have to get to journals in specific disciplines to get any real insight.

Example, neither Dallas County or Harris County have case/death numbers in the Top 25 in Texas among counties. This trend is increasing as rural counties have not come to grips with reducing spread. The TOPOS website is very good at showing this

... those who live in crowded spaces, for example farm workers and prisoners.

If you've got four people sleeping in a 100 square foot space cooled by a crappy old motel air conditioner or a forty year old HVAC system then the virus is going to spread.

and deaths per 1million population by state.

The world version has the same breakdown.

I personally think that people should be looking a LOT harder at cases or deaths per million, not just the raw numbers.
