So, one mass gathering without masks has resulted in more coronavirus cases than attended
his rally, way to go donnie keep giving the virus to your die hard fans and we'll see a lot of them

The virus doesn't think mask wearing is partisan.

(19,001 posts)Trump made the statement right before that rally that people who wear masks are just doing it to show their disapproval of him. That guaranteed no mask wearing at that event and Cain died as a result.

The worst of it is he was in charge of a federal department and didnt take the appropriate steps to make his employees safer. (5,293 posts)There is/was a magazine called Pizza Today, a trade magazine for pizza restaurants. Herman Cain was on the cover of the issue that listed my favorite local shop as one of the 50 best independent pie shops in the U.S. (listed alphabetically by state). (5,969 posts)They begged them not to hold the rally which turned out to be a huge failure anyways.
But they didn't only go on with their rally, they carefully made sure to act in a way to own the libs, to neglect any kind of actions that responsible human beings should do. Not only for themselves but for those around them. And it was done simply for political reasons and to kiss Trump's ass.
No masks and no social distancing. It was a deliberate decision to specifically act against these two notions to fight the pandemic because they are hated by the right. All of that only in order to show that everything is alright and people pay the price for this evil stupidity every day.

But what I remember is a self-made millionaire black man who had the audacity to run for president on the Republican ticket, and to survive long enough to make his mark and become a household name in our community.

(6,145 posts)And yet another reason for sadness. I am sad that he went in that direction, and I am sad that he is dead.
Thank you for sharing his positions, so that I can know what they were, and thank you for sharing the quote.
I am not sure how I will feel when Ben Carson dies, or when Clarence Thomas dies.
Carson, I will probably also feel that he lost his way. But he was a brilliant neurosurgeon and inspired many, many young people before he "lost his way".
Clarence Thomas, I will probably never feel remorse for.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)He is not the example you make him out to be. Much better examples of self-made Black people are Ophra Winfrey, Jay-Z, LeBron James and the billionaire who paid the college debt of a whole class of graduating Black kids - AND added to that by setting up a futures endowment to help more striving Black kids.
qwlauren35
(6,145 posts)He lost his way.
You could say the same about Ben Carson. 4 years ago, I was very mad at him, but now - "he lost his way". But he was a brilliant neurosurgeon who inspired so many. ''
My husband would call both of them sell-outs. Probably very accurate.
One of my girlfriends said that Republicans paid him to run so that he would split the AA vote. He went so far right, it doesn't surprise me.
For some reason, I just can't hate him. Maybe because I never paid that much attention to him, and he never affected my life.

(9,054 posts)So it's sobering just how far people who should absolutely know better will go in service to their politics and their ideology.
I read a lot of conservative blogs and things (know your opponent), and I'm just waiting to see the reactions to this one - if they mention it at all.
It really is disheartening. There are conservatives I read who I consider intelligent, thoughtful people even if I oppose them. But this mask business, it's like they've lost their damn minds. I've spent most of my adult life trying to be civil and engage and respect people as individuals. During this virus, I have lost so much respect for some people I thought of decently.
And for what? This fucking president? This guy?
I'll never understand that level of partisanship. Never.

(790 posts)In just our behavior alone, Americans have made it easy for Covid-19 to swing its scythe across this country. Those who attended Trump's Tulsa rally, along with Cain, behaved despicably by exposing innocent people afterwards to a super contagious pathogen. It was at the rally that some of Trump's Secret Service agents and advance team workers had become -- or were -- infected. Now GOP members of Congress are racing to get tested after Congressman Gohmert blew mouth droplets in their faces all week.

You fucking vile monsters. 150,000 Americans are dead because you - yeah, I'm looking at you, Republicans - chose to do nothing about your vile leader. The blood of those Americans is on your hands as much as it is on you dear leader's.
150,000 Americans.
If you lined these Americans up, with 6' spacing, the line would be 170 miles long. From the White House to Morgantown, West Virginia, or Trenton, New Jersey, or Henderson, North Carolina.
So, don't care much about Herman Cain. Just add him to the end of the line. With one American dying every minute from Covid-19, he won't be at the end of the line for long.

(31,261 posts)I honestly cant feel remorse over his death. He could have been a shining inspiration for many, but he chose a different path. He started the journey to his end days by attending a rally for a man that is full of divisiveness and hate, and Cain chose to follow the foolish prescripts of that man by attending the rally and taking no precautions to protect himself and others.
