These 68 videos show clear apparent instances of police officers escalating violence during protests. Most departments refused to share details about investigations and discipline or even officers names. Heres what we learned about each case.

(25,962 posts)There are 68 videos and I made it through four of them before I had to quit. Putting that many together from so many different communities shows how widespread and ingrained this issue is. It's appalling, and shows the obvious lack of effort each police department puts into dealing with the problem. The long column of "criminal charges filed: no" shows that they don't see a problem with themselves at all.

(47,399 posts)watching a few. It is so overwhelming. So many times, the assaults are just random and reckless, like the police are lashing out at anyone for no particular reason. The militarization of our police is terrifying and it goes back to George W. Bush after 9/11. We all knew it was a bad idea then and many of our fears are being realized. Police state.

(244 posts)Think about how much doesn't get captured on video. I got through about half. Amazing how few officers are identified. They look like storm troopers, not part of the community. When you arrive at a protest dressed in military equipment, how can you not end up with "us against them"? The horse trampling the woman is "under investigation", really? What's to investigate?

(47,399 posts)They have that frightening anonymous look about them, where they don't appear to be human. I try to imagine the person inside all that gear and what on earth they could be thinking. Perhaps being less identifiable makes them more aggressive and violent.
You know, I think about all the movies I've seen about authoritarian governments and they are the ones that always scared me the most. Now we are seeing it in real life every day.

(8,853 posts)...so far I have noticed lots of videos where multiple cops move into place to block the view of the person who is filming the abuse.

(32,633 posts)Wow these are everywhere, all over the US! In most instances the police officers' names are unknown, or not given.

(302 posts)Come January 21st, we need to have a national law that says every act of police violence will be reviewed by a civilian review board, NOT the local city/county attorney's office, and be must prosecuted by an independent prosecutor. Any police officer / union that does not want to participate needs to have their certification revoked. Enough of this BS. As the saying goes, sometimes the only difference between a criminal and cop is that one has a badge.
