Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accuses Texas Republican of joining in on harassment
Excerpt...
Williams says he didn't hear the exchange, which was overheard and reported on by a reporter from The Hill. But Ocasio-Cortez said on Twitter that Williams is merely pretending not to have heard it and that he actually joined in the argument, yelling at her about "throwing urine." During the argument, another Republican member of congress called Ocasio-Cortez a "fucking bitch," The Hill reported.
"Gotta love Republican courage from Rep @RogerWilliamsTX: when he undeniably sees another man engaged in virulent harassment of a young woman, just pretend you never saw it in the most cartoonish manner possible and keep pushing," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

2016 House Ethics Review[edit]
On May 3, 2016, the House Ethics Committee initiated an investigation into Williams after he inserted a provision into a $300 billion transportation funding bill called the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act that exempted some car dealerships like his own from a proposal to prevent rental car companies from renting out vehicles that were subject to safety recalls.[16] The legislation was spurred by the deaths of Raechel and Jacqueline Houck, ages 24 and 20.[17] The two sisters were killed in 2004 while driving a rented, recalled vehicle that caught fire and crashed head-on into a semi.[18] The investigation's focus was a provision Williams authored in the bill that would have exempted dealerships like his own and allowed renting vehicles under active safety recall.[19][20][21] The independent nonpartisan Office of Congressional Ethics found that Williams violated House ethics rules, noting that Williams refused to cooperate; by unanimous, bipartisan vote the OCE found that there is substantial reason to believe that Rep. Williams personal financial interest in his auto dealership may be perceived as having influenced his performance of official duties namely, his decision to offer an amendment to the surface transportation legislation.[22] The House Ethics committee determined that the amendment "could have affected Representative Williams personal financial interests", but decided to end the investigation and took no further action.[23][24]

COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program Controversy[edit]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dallas Morning News reported that Roger Williams Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership in Weatherford, Texas received an unspecified amount in federally backed small business loans as part of the Paycheck Protection Program. Williams' office acknowledged that he had accepted forgivable taxpayer-funded loans through the Paycheck Protection Program a few days later but would not disclose the amount.[27] In Texas the Killeen Daily Herald, Austin American-Statesman, and Fort Worth Star-Telegram published stories on the incident, with national news outlets reporting as well.[28][27][29][2]
The move prompted Rep. Katie Porter to introduce legislation that would require all loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to be made public and stated "If youre a multimillionaire taking taxpayer money in the middle of the biggest unemployment since the Great Depression, get ready to explain that decision to the American people."[30][31] Washington Post highlighted March 2020 comments from Williams in Epoch Times, where he stated "A socialist wants you to get a check from the government... a capitalist wants you to get a check from the place that you work."[32]
Rep. Williams then drew further public scrutiny for voting against the TRUTH Act (H.R. 6782), a bipartisan bill which would have required public disclosure of companies that received funds through the bailout program.[33][34][35][36]

Williams general election opponent, Democrat Julie Oliver, accused the incumbent, who serves on the House Financial Services Committee, of having " looked out for big banks and big money for the last seven years."
Our political system is corrupt, she said. We arent surprised when we learn that members of Congress and mega-donors abuse their positions of public trust and power to move to the front of the line, while mom and pop businesses who are hurting in Texas got shut out.

(4,980 posts)Most of the time, the jerk just floats around in the backgrounds of awful acts and utterances by other members of the gop. That any words, sentiments, or mere presence can be attributed to him at all is a small miracle, because he doesnt really show up in any meaningful way, ever.
Does he ever talk to constituents on my end of the 25th district? No. It takes 5 hours to drive the length of the gerrymandered district shaped like a mermaid tail. Get the picture? He doesnt have to work for the people he serves - hes just more grease in the republicon machine who does just enough to ensure government work$ for him and his. As the virus rages through the state, not even the meandering contours of the 25th ensures his electoral safety in the 2020 election.
I suspect he and yoho architected this verbal attack as a publicity stunt and both deserve every bit of blowback they receive. Rep. Ocasio-Cortezs hour on the House floor was a stunning moment for every woman that has ever experienced such disrespect from a male colleague. Who has ever wanted to call out the men whod rather engage in misogynistic ploys or tantrums than do competent work. Its certainly happened to me in the corporate world, and not surprisingly, within my own family.
Am gonna go over and give a bonus contribution to Julie Oliver. Join me in giving williams the middle finger: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/julie-oliver-for-congress-1
