July 8, 2020 at 7:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Mr. Biden commands even more significant support from voters who supported Elizabeth Warren in the primary. The Democrats who said she was their top choice to be the Democratic nominee backed Mr. Biden over Mr. Trump by a staggering margin of 96% to 0% even wider than Mr. Bidens 96-1 lead among those who said he was their top choice in the Democratic primary.

(3,396 posts)You have to provide something positive to run for. You have to inspire people. But Trump is so despised, by so many people, that its working this time.
Biden does inspire me, but mainly because hes sane and a grown-up, and he can fix some of the damage Trump has inflicted. So his inspirational qualities are partially a reflection of how much I hate Trump. I think thats true for many others.

(6,818 posts)Even Clinton had a couple of weeks past inauguration before the media proclaimed his a failed presidency.
But there WILL be some major hollerin' if there aren't more than a few from Trump's cadre indicted AND found guilty AND imprisoned by June 2021. It's clean house time in America. NO MORE: Trumps, DeVos types, Barr types, McConnell types, Gym types, Pompeo types, Limbaugh and his wannabes or public lying on major news networks. Demand truth in broadcasting! The foolishness has got to be over. If there is oppression in the country, let it be oppression of bigots, racists, greed/fear mongers, TV ministers and pirate capitalists. Eliminate consequence free lying by politicians (that's a lot easier when the media is constrained by fairness and honesty in broadcasting). AND provide national guidelines for federal elections, state congressional district boundaries and eliminate the electoral college. When anyone tries to justify the EC, OUT them for the liars/fools/traitors to the people they are.

(90,648 posts)...and malaise? Will you take a page from Obamas election and start the fault-finding from the moment he chooses a minister or priest (he is Catholic, after all) to participate in the swearing-in.
So much to look forward to.
Maybe, just for a shocking change, we Dems could get behind the guy who is going to be getting a shitload of grief from the GOP, MAGAts, Trump, and the Russian assets.

(43,137 posts)amidst a referendum on Trump. Republicans are so immersed in Trumpism they can't even detect any problems with their candidate at all. Voters are making up their minds, are turned off by Trump. The Biden campaign will ramp up and may create a not insignificant surge that results in overperformance in some state races.

(13,036 posts)screw the excitement factor. We don't need someone with alot of hot air. We need a real leader. It excites me as heck that come November Godwilling we will have a President Biden so that the majority of Americans can sleep soundly knowing we are in good hands. It excites me to know the grave ills committed by this horrible administration will be righted and the crooks prosecuted. It excites me Biden will be our leader to restore relations with our ally countries abroad & the US back to normalcy domestically, to its status as World Leader in Democracy, Human Rights, and as the greatest nation with the greatest economy on earth.

(86,569 posts)We have our country to save all while trying to sustain our species and many others. Joe Biden is currently developing policy proposals, reassembling a government that has been hacked to pieces and doing so in a manner that is based on inclusion of all. And that inclusion part is crucial for everyone because by the time we figure out how to exist with a long term pandemic there will be far fewer of us I fear and all people who do manage to make it will certainly be a mix of peoples who will need to collaborate to survive.

(10,828 posts)If you want excitement, go to an amusement park. Post-Trump, voters should be convinced that presidential elections are not and should never be based on an entertainment quotient. The position of an executive worth his/her salt is hard work and demands knowledge, commitment and heart in order to get stuff done to promote and guide the welfare of the American public. Trump has failed on all fronts, most spectacularly in protecting the security of the country and our basic principles and institutions. Rule of law, anyone?
Enough of the adolescent braying for a damn excitement factor!

(700 posts)I'd have a hard time believing 4% of those supporting Sanders would actually vote for Trump. No way! I can see them maybe supporting a 3rd party candidate but going from Sanders to Trump? Who would actually do that???

(22,250 posts)It NEVER works and it makes the Democrats who do it hard to find because they aren't voting in the Democratic primaries, and the Republicans get mad if we call them; they are on our lists because they voted in our primaries
It can only work in a small election with a united front against a bad candidate. Next county over, there was a school board election with a Tea Party Republican and a 'normal person' Republican. The Republican party leadership wanted the moderate to win and the Democrats had no one in the primary, so the Democrats voted in the Republican primary to boost the good guy. Small electorate, focused attack equaled a good outcome. The good guy won

(22,912 posts)...the party you register with actually stands for in order to vote in that party's primary. 4% is just statistical noise, literally fringe data. Bernie Sanders is a high profile figure who a few simply equate with screw the establishment, and out of that group a subset of them think that Trump is all about screwing the establishment also. Significantly more people think that the moon landings were faked than fit into this grouping.
yellowdogintexas
(22,250 posts)your own party's primary. Open primary states are a free for all on primary day. No such thing as a 'registered Democrat' or 'registered Republican' in Texas.

It makes no sense logically, but research has provided several explanations for some Trump votes: sexism, racism, etc.

(26,355 posts)Maybe a few leftists on the radical side of the spectrum, but I'm not seeing never-Bideners really gaining a foothold this year. Hell, I supported Bernie in the primaries, but Biden's a good guy - if Bernie himself is working with him, that's all good with me.
Trump must be removed by any means necessary.
We've had almost four years to acquire a burning hatred for Trump - I think that's going to win out.

(37,748 posts)And despite the differences, the common denominators between them were much greater. So I'm not too surprised to see the party coalesce behind Vice President Biden.
And, as the flaring coals of the primaries have begun cooling down, I honestly do think a lot of people who dismissed Biden previously are now looking at him in contrast to Idiot trump and realizing that the stakes are far too high to avoid voting in the general as some kind of statement of conviction as was done and proudly advertised four years ago.
