If someone asks you why Trump being briefed on Russian bounties, or not, matters...

AND they are a sincere interlocutor rather than a MAGAt or troll, focus on the fact of the lie.

There is ample multi-source reportage from respected national security journalists at major papers/networks confirming that it was in the PDB, that the NSC was engaged in the matter, etc. So Trump knew. Dozens of people in the White House knew. But Trump and the WH are desperately, repeatedly, obviously lying... Why?

Because they also know their response was wrong. The lie reveals that they know they were wrong in their (non)response. They did not do the right thing. They KNOW they did not do the right thing. Their lie is an attempt to dodge blame for their wrong actions by changing the context of those actions to a more innocent one.

Trump being briefed matters because it means he KNOWS his reaction was wrong. He did the wrong thing on purpose.

If he actually wasn't briefed, then he hired the wrong people to brief him.

If he didn't listen to the brief or ignored it, then we hired the wrong person to sit in the Oval Office (obviously)

Bottom line - he's responsible.

...it's even easier.
"Because he's the president, and if he didn't know, that's his fault, anyway. Bad management.
Best of all, it's accurate.
"If you believe anything bad was on Obama, because he's ultimately responsible, then same thing here."
No, I don't believe he didn't know. But, it's his fault either way.
If he knew & did nothing, very bad. If he didn't, he's running the White House badly!
Got them coming & going.

a different logical angle

To wit: Assume the denial is true and see where that takes you. It takss you to a place where our entire national inelligence community cannot trust this President with classified information because - you fill in possible reasons.

What doesn't matter is whether on not he lied about being briefed. All the other stull matters - matters a lot.
