https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29339709/kansas-state-suspends-football-workouts-14-days-positive-coronavirus-testsAs of Friday, 14 athletes out of 130 tested across sports were positive for COVID-19. They are in self-isolation for 10 days or until the patient is without fever for 72 hours without medication, whichever takes longer.
"The health and well-being of our student-athletes will always be our top priority," K-State athletics director Gene Taylor said. "Following the most recent test results, we felt like temporarily pausing all football workouts and access to our facilities was the best decision for everyone. We continue to take this situation very seriously and want to do everything we can to get back to workouts soon."

(7,455 posts)This is happening across the country, including 23 Clemson players who tested positive. They may try to start the season but eith a spike predicted for late August it would likely just be halted.

(5,122 posts)Football is just too much of a contact sport, to risk so many being infected.

(42,363 posts)Local news ran a story about how they were training in separate groups so one person testing positive doesnt shut everything down, theyre using this awesome new disinfectant that lasts for 30 days, etc., etc.
Im thinking, OK, thats great, but how are you keeping them from breathing all over each other?

(6,473 posts)it actually could be a very interesting scientific opportunity to study how quickly this spreads through a group of generally very healthy athletes-(minus the hulking linemen). But I don't think they will be cut off from the rest of the community like the NFL, MLB and NBA propose
I'm a 50+ year season ticketholder at a FBS school and I've never thought they could successfully complete the season-they'll try but it will fail. How much "sheeding" goes on during a practice, a game a season
If there are deaths or long term medical consequences to these athletes I will not support-I think NCAA will shut it down quickly if that happens because of massive negative publicity

(34,661 posts)can see just how this could and would happen. Conditions in Weight Rooms,Locker Rooms as well as even training rooms are almost always Sweaty, high humidity, wet floors,as well as wet towels and folks sneezing or coughing..
All it takes is one infected person.
