The Daily Dread - Tracking the spread (of a different sort), 5/30/20

There is no COVID-19 data being provided on either source I look to, on this subject (MSNBC, and failing that, CNN). Not today and not yesterday either. So I can't report on any confirmed cases or deaths.

But I do have some numbers for you today.

Twenty-four. No, check that. Just added another so it's now 25.

I started a count of the cities where there's been widespread public reaction to the death of George Floyd at the hands of reckless and overzealous Minneapolis police. There are marches and citizen protests during the day. Unfortunately there have been riots and violence, vandalism and destruction once night comes, although some daylight actions have deteriorated like the one I'm watching on CNN, as I write this, on Third Street in L.A.'s Fairfax. I have now counted 25 of our major cities where one or another of the aforementioned occurrences have been noted, and covered.

1 Minneapolis, MN
2 Los Angeles, CA
3 Las Vegas, NV
4 Sacramento, CA
5 Oakland, CA
6 Denver, CO
7 Louisville, KY
8 New York City, NY
9 Dallas, TX
10 Atlanta, GA
11 Washington, DC (outside the White House)

19 Philadelphia, PA
20 Wilmington, DE
21 Des Moines, IA
22 Houston, TX
23 Chicago, IL

But the civil unrest in the wake of the highly-unnecessary death of George Floyd has overtaken all. Even the pandemic, where we left off, with more than 101-thousand deaths just here in the U.S.
