Biden and Trump Show a Contrast in Style
President Trump and former Vice president Joe Biden made public appearances on Memorial Day, showing how their approaches differ as the presidential campaign unfolds amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It was the first time Mr. Biden was seen outside of his Delaware neighborhood in two months. Donning a black mask, he drew a contrast to the president, who declined to wear a mask in two separate appearances Monday. The two men havent appeared in public on the same day since Mr. Biden became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Mr. Biden made an unannounced stop at the Delaware Memorial Bridges Veterans Memorial Park near his hometown of Wilmington, while Mr. Trump made a visit to Arlington National Cemetery before delivering remarks at Fort McHenry in Baltimore later in the day. Mr. Trump paid tribute to those who died while serving in the military and to victims of the pandemic as the U.S. neared 100,000 coronavirus deaths, close to 30% of the global total, ignoring calls by the citys mayor to reconsider making an appearance there.
Tens of thousands of service members and national guardsmen are on the front lines of our war against this terrible virus, caring for patients, delivering critical supplies and working night and day to safeguard our citizens, Mr. Trump said. As one nation, we mourn alongside every single family that has lost loved ones, including the families of our great veterans.
