covid has touched me personally

his is the face of one of the brightest, most talented young men I’ve ever had the honor to know. He was a bright shining light 8th grade year. Always smiling, never involved in drama, and always there to help his peers and offer assistance to any adult. He gave the best, most positive speech to the entire gym full of 8th graders and families at their 8th grade promotion ceremony, and went on to college far away from here. Then Covid came and brought him home, where his life was tragically lost to senseless violence. THIS is a Covid19 related death no one will credit to the quarantine. This kid had it all and worked his butt off for every single opportunity he was given. He stayed at the top of his game all through school and worked his way in to a great college. He made a difference for me as an educator and as a human being. He made his family proud every single day. He had a fantastic support system in place and leaned on his people whenever he needed help, and they were there for him. His family has suffered the greatest loss imaginable today after the doctors worked for 5 days around the clock to put his bullet riddled body back together. He fought like the dedicated student he has always been, but God had other plans. It’s now up to us to make sure his death was not in vain. If you have faith, PRAY. Pray for this young man, and for all the ones like him who have the world in their hands. Pray for his family and friends who will never again see that smile and those dimples in person, or hear that musical laugh every day. Pray for the momma who lost her baby today, the father who lost his son, and his beautiful sister who lost the brother she worshiped and looked up to. Pray for the other young man who lost his life in this senseless situation, and for his young love and his baby who will now grow up without a father. Pray for the souls who took these young lives away from those of us who loved them (that’s going to be the hard part for me, because right now I don’t wish them any grace at all.) And if you are one who doesn’t pray, that’s okay too. Please hold this face in your memory, and when you see a need with another youngster in a similar situation and you can offer anything to help, DO IT. Words of encouragement, words of comfort, take them out for burgers to keep them busy. I don’t know how to fix this hell of senseless violence we experience so often, but I know that we are all responsible and it will take all of us paying attention and stepping up to make the difference and save the next young man who finds himself in a similar situation. Keep your eyes and ears open and when you can help, HELP. He deserves it. They all do. Rest In Peace.
